High Milage Oil Change Interval Advice

Hello I'm currently running a 2003 Honda Accord EX V6 with 138,666 miles on it. I just had my transmission fluid done today and ended up doing the oil at home as well. I stuck with Motorcraft 5w-20 which will be the second time I used it. $17.?? at Walmart for the 5 qt jug. Previously I used a Mobil 1 High Mileage Synthetic because it was about to be winter and I heard it starts better so whatever. Before that I just stuck with a lot of random oils and then Honda 5w-20 syn blend. Last time I went with Honda's 7,500 interval, but the severe interval is 3,750. The Severe Conditions listed by Honda are driving less than 5 miles per trip, driving in over 90 degree weather, extensive idling or long periods of stop and go driving. So with my car approaching 150,000 miles should I stick with the 7,500 interval or switch it up to about 5,000 or so? thanks

Read my sig. In the past I did 10K on engines with well over 300K.

1. If you meet the conditions as outlined under severe, then run the 3,750 interval. If not, run 7,500.

138,000 miles isn't high mileage. Another 100k miles and you'll be in high mileage territory. With my cars over 200k miles, I split the difference and change their oil every 5000 miles. One car has a small oil leak so it gets high mileage oil. The other car doesn't leak so it gets regular oil.

Does your car leak or burn oil?

I thought that was high mileage until my sentra went almost 300,000 on cheap oil.

Use a semi-syn high mileage oil like Valvoline max-life or castrols High Mileage oil and change it around every 6k or once a year.

The motor will probably outlast the transmission in that car anyways.

the transmission doesn't feel as good as it used to, but it happens. i heard some 03 accords got recalled for the transmission, but mine wasn't one of them. my car doesn't leak oil. i've been using the purolator pureone filter also. i'm just trying to make the car last cause i don't want another car payment yet even though its a god [censored] boat. i like the 240hp, but it's not a sports car. i want something small economical light and fast

your talking GTI, the newest GTI with performance package of brembos + the biggie a LSD, because power is nothing without traction. VW rates their cars conservatively + a simple ECU upgrade from APR.com will really rock, still with good mpg's if you can control the WOW pedal!!

Except they aren't nearly as reliable as Honda overall. Non turbo vw are less trouble prone.
