Greetings everyone,

I have a 1985 Merkur XR4Ti with 220,000 miles on it, original 2.3 Turbo engine (same motor as the TB Turbo Coupe). It has a new Turbo, runs very strong, it does need new valve seals as it smokes for a few seconds on startup. The car is not a daily driver and tends to be driven < 3000 miles a year.

I'm currently using Motocraft Semi-Syth 10w30 and a FoMoCo FL1A filter, changing it every 3k miles. These motors run hot are a hard on oil, any recoomendations or should I stick with MC?

Thanks!

Stick with MC Blend...a good solid oil.

Or you might consider Valvoline MaxLife Blend 5w30. Another great High Mileage oil.

Congratulations on keeping such a rare car going. I always wanted one of these. How many you think are left in the country?

Convert that thing over to RS500 specs, and run Motul 300V, or Silkolene in it!

I haven't seen one up here in a decade or more. I used to love that car!

I don't know much about that engine. If it's as hard on oil as you say it is I would run a full synthetic to avoid shearing and to keep that turbo healthy. If you're looking for price Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 is an option, along with GC and dare I say Castrol EDGE
