High consumption = no oil change?

While I'm hoping ARX fixes my consuption problem, I started thinking whether I wanted to switch to syn w/ 1qt/1000m consumption. However, at that rate, I'm basically getting an oil change every 5K? If I change just the filter every 6K or so, would I be ok? Or would fuel/antifreeze/small particles need to be flushed still every 10K or so?

What type and grade of oil are you using? eg. if you're using a dino 5-30 and getting that much consumption, you should be switching up in viscosity and/or trying out a HD diesel oil.

Different oils can have drastic effects on oil usage so you need to do some experimenting. If it is really using (as opposed to leaking) it needs to be changed at least as often as usual because the leaking rings or guides or whatever allow the oil to become polluted much faster.

Is the exhaust blue?

Changed your PCV valve lately?

I've run either QS 10w30 early on, then QS 4x4 blend mostly the last 30K or so. I've changed the PCV and cleaned the EGR valve and return pipe feed out (it was pretty bad). There is no leak and prior to my ARX treatment, a little smoke when overdrive kicks in. Its still burning oil during first ARX rinse phase. Rinse is with QS 10w30, and since finding this board, I've already topped off 2 qts w/ shell Rotella T 15w40 during first 1300 miles of rinse. I'll see if this thicker weight reduces usage any. I plan on Seaform flush for 150miles or so at end of rinse, then starting a 2nd ARX treatment. Should I use a lighter weight during cleaning phase? I just hope I can clean out those drain bake holes in the rings (known problem on troopers). I'm considering trying either LC or Seaform soaking overnight directly in cylinders. Do I really need to do just three at a time, i.e. in the 'up' position, or can I just put 2oz in each overnight?
