I know people, to include my father, who gets prescriptions and takes pills for EVERYTHING, and they're generally not healthy at all because they and their doctors are trying to solve problems with pills instead of fixing root causes. It's a giant money making scheme if you ask me.

Obviously some meds are legitimate, and as I age, if I can't keep my HBP under control, I'll take meds.

But I can't believe you can watch a TV commercial advertising a prescription medication, then go to your doctor, and get it! That's insane. Make it OTC if you're going to commercialize medicine that much. Or legalize narcotics for crying out loud - can't do that or the Pharmaceutical companies lose big. That's the number one reason why narcotics are illegal.

Super answer! Can't disagree with you at all, and do the diet and excerise thing. Wish you the best in your endeavor. Sorry to say I do the pill route but it caused mainly because of being disabled and unable to excerise. Recovered from cancer and was told to gain weight, now I'm told to loose weight but stay off my feet and legs, go figure?

I'm 35 and I've been taking lisinopril (20mg a day) for about 4 years now due to being diagnosed with mild hypertension. HBP is common in my family - both my mother and my grandmother have it and have been on pills for a long time. I'm at 120/75 now. It's around 140/90-95 if I don't take it.

My diet is pretty good, so I couldn't make much improvements there. As for exercise, I could do better I guess. That is actually my new year's resolution.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'd take blood pressure medication if I was in your situation as well!

I'm probably just trying to blow sunshine up my butt and will be forced to take BP medication, but you'll have to pry my bacon from by cold dead hands!

Point taken!

No, I usually see them refilling their keg sized coke and adding extra jalapenos to their chili cheese nachos.

My systolic is in the 100-110 range and the diastolic is in the 65-75 range all my adult life. I don't do any dieting, I ate all kind of junk foods such as chicken/duck/pork ... skins, I love butter and all kind of fat stubs. I'm 5'7" and weight only 125lb, slightly under weight, and that is mainly the reason I have low blood pressure.

Hey it is what it is, (heard that once, and thought I'd use it). Anyway I feel very Blessed with the health that I do have, and I'm not cold yet.

Go for that diet thing, nothing ventured nothing gained. Keep it monitored.

Best

I unfortunately went from about 120 lbs wearing a soaking wet wool suit in high school, to 210-215 lbs today. All belly fat.

I have to get that under control or I'm going to be in rough shape in the future. Drank WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much beer during college. I went from totally active, to a coach potato chip eating, beer drinking champion!

Drew your diet has a lot to answer for. And get the salt out of your food, a lot harder than you would think. Read every label and give Sodium and MSG (626) the flick. I had high BP, fine mow.

it's wise to have a machine at home to monitor BP. do it at night, when you're kicking back, and relaxing.that's what the book on my machine states. many people have high readings at a doc's office -- it's called white coat hypertension. psychological thing, i guess. it's o.k. to treat hypertension the way that g*o*d intended -- with drugs. diet (no salt)and exercise help, as well.try to reduce stress. good luck.

My wife has a coffee cup that says "There are people in this world who can eat anything they want and not gain weight. We must find them and hurt them."

Anthony Bourdain is one of them. He eats like a cow at a feed lot and drinks like a sailor and is pencil thin!

Going to the doctors causes mine to be high. I bought my own device so that I could take the disc in to prove that the only time it is high is when I visited them. My current systolic record is 200!!. I have a new doctor now though and amazingly last time I went to see her my blood pressure was normal.

I notice running helps lower my blood pressure. must be getting that ticker beating faster flushes out that plaque

Maybe you have high BP from work related stress and the stress your woman gives you for being a 'lethargic turd'

Are an emotional eater... eating to relieve stress ?

I'm afraid I'll have to leave this thread. I thought we were having an informative and open discussion about high blood pressure. But after these personal and offensive remarks, I've decided to leave the thread.
