Last night, I inquired about whether or not people were grounding portable generators while using them. I have the answer about where I would like to ground the unit in question (about 6'under.)
Got the unit out this morning (I had already swapped the plug to an Autolite 64, as was recommended), filled up with fresh 92 premium fuel w/Echo 50:1 oil, and it started on the second pull. Let it run for about 10 minutes and hooked up my B&D Hedge Trimmer. On the side of the box, it claims that a hedge "Timmer" is 500 watts-- makes me glad I have a trimmer. However, I checked Wattage prior: 120 volts x 2.2 amps= 264 watts. Hooked this up with 25' 12 gauge cord. Turned on trimmer, got about 1/2 hedge done and it stalled. Started up again, got 5 min out of it and it stalled again. With or without load, it will only run 3-5 minutes and will stall if placed into run cycle.
Read the manual again and went to the "Troubleshootlng" section for engine stops suddenly. I'm sure that the tank has fuel and is fresh (shoots down #1.) #2 mentions a defective fuel tank cap creating vacuum. Tried loosening cap still doesn't help. #3 is improper idle speed. This could be possible but it seems to idle adequately. and #4 :faulty magneto, incorrect timing or clogged carb and of course it is recommended to take to a qualified tech (not throwing any more $ into this thing.)
I freely admit this is of my own fault and doing. Bought this thing last fall at one of their pkg. lot sales and has been sitting in a box until yesterday (so no recourse w/HF.) My gut told me not to buy it but I thought it would be an interesting toy and might save me from running extension cords for yard work. Right now, I'm just pretty french fried and disgusted about the whole thing. Any suggestions, or do I have a $79.00 pretty blue doorstop?
