Hertz EV disposal plan in effect.

Don't you love those arguments when people emphasize that they need to refill, I need it right now! Like in 2-5 mins, like they drive 300+ miles daily. In that case, they are not an average Joe,
As someone who drives a lot, I can tell you that the interstates are "Chock-A-Block" full of long distance motorists.

Maybe wait until EVs had more widespread acceptance and customers were all clamoring to rent EVs. Then I would start up the process of building and EV fleet.
I think lots of changes need to happen before EVs make sense as rentals.
Regardless, I agree, Hertz' timing was pretty bad; pretty stupid. Just my 2 cents.

I think they looked at is as being to offer a premium product and didn't really think through the downsides of caring for multiple vehicles that need to charge at a time.

Hertz has a LARGE selection of USED 2023 GM Bolts for sale here in the Carolinas and a farily ok selection of Used 2023 Teslas

Great prices on the Bolts, enough that for the heck of it I was almost ready to go take a drive next week, dirt cheap... wouldnt make sense to keep wifes rarely used Mazda around, with the Federal (taxpayer) used car credit of $4000 and selling the Mazda with 95k on the odometer. I could swap in the Bolt with less than 25k on the odometer for 10k.... or less

Then reality hit, darn, I really want my fellow taxpayers to pay that money. So I go to the Gov site and I see the catch. The used car has to be two calendar years old AND under 25k to qualify. What the heck !?!?!? So none of these cars qualify.
Now I know why there are so many Bolts available.

Please tell me I got something wrong, but I know I dont.

Edit (update) Just called Hertz, I am correct. Car as to be two calendar years old. 2023 EV doesnt qualify. Go figure (no politics or I would say more)

I believe the tax credit programs include an income requirement. Not everyone qualifies.

Yep and then claim they're driving for free, or almost free. However key elements in that math are often left out.

Like my neighbour, who forgets to count the installation of his PV panels, home battery, driveway (can't run a charge cord over the sidewalk legally) and wall charger. I tried to explain that he can use the electric either for his house (which he converted to electric hvac) OR the cars, but he doesn't have enough for both, certainly not year round.

Oh and the added cost up front for the more expensive vehicles. It looks cheap per charge, but he's lucky to break even in the end

What is the income requirement? I think the new car limit is $150K.
$150k single, $300k combined household income.

Oh you meant the used one. I'd have to look that up.

$75k single, $112k head of household or $150k filed jointly. Not sure of the reason for breaking out head of household to married filing jointly. Not sure why it would matter if head of household was one income source being less than two people working to get $150k income.

I don't qualify for the used purchase if they really break down head of household that way. I might if it counted for filing jointly depending on how the year goes. I didn't get the new credit when we bought because it was during that end of the year 5-6 week lapse of the credit that we took delivery.

I think that is exactly what it means, if you file jointly. SO what do you or your accountant have checked off at the top of your 1040 tax return? The numbers you have posted more align for used vehicles. (just so others dont get confused since Jeff brought up new vehicles that I posted after this post)

The first question is "Filing Status" and five choices, one of them is checked.

Single - Married Filing Jointly - Married Filing Separately - Head of Household - Qualifying Surviving Spouse

Yeah, I am about to pull the trigger on the new M3P. Let's just say I am not counting on the tax credit. Probably $71K all in for the car, FSD, reg and the governor's tax. Gonna make life miserable for all the Germans and exotics...
