Ok i have a 1983 nissan pickup with a z24 motor. this motors cam is overhead but does this motor need to have shorter oci or should it be longer. im not sure if this motor i hard on oil or not. i dont think ts really worth the cost for an oil sample. thanks

What type of service does it see? This is a carb'd engine so it won't have refined fuel management.

pretty much all city, paper delivery, it runs about an hour every night straight. it is carbed, it drives about 100-200 miles a week, it will see constant 45 mile an hour drives for about 15 miles most days. but pretty much all city idle type conditions and mosly idles at for that hour

oh no all is in good shape, the computer that controls the carb is a little screwy but once it comes off high idle its all runs good, i do need to adjust the valves again after i get it good and hot.

I had an '89 Z24 w/ throttle-body fuel injection...I sold the truck with 159k on it and it had Castrol GTX 10w30 all its life every 5-8k...used a little oil when I sold it but it ran good.

I had the valves adjusted at the stealership at least 3 times over its life while I owned it...I got it at 40k and the previous owner (my cousin) used Castrol so that is how I got on that oil choice.

Thats good news. Ya im not sure how much fuel it gets into the oil. I try to get t on the interstate or on a longer drive once a week just to try to burn off any water or fuel in the oil. so i hope its ok for it. i just dont know of many people that have ever looked a uoa from something like an 83 nissan z24 motor

Even if the carb is in great shape, all those vacuum driven smog devices are in unknown condition, and could affect the air/fuel mixture.

Also, how old is the O2 sensor? Back then the engine computer could not tell you when the O2 sensor was acting slowly. It could only give you an O2 sensor failure code if the O2 voltage was out of range.

See what it costs to replace the O2S if the mileage of the sensor is unknown. Otherwise, the air fuel mixture in normal conditions will be wrong.

Also, is your PCV system in good shape? pull out you PCV valve and shake it, listen to hear if it makes a metallic clicking noise. If it doesn't, buy a new PCV valve. Gases from the crankcase tend to shorten oil life if they are not vented properly.

I'm not sure how long an OCI should be for a Nissan Z24 engine.
