I ordered four of these. All of them look like they have rust issues. Inside of them look clean. I'm planning to open up one of them and examine the internals. How does it look down the hole?
Likely surface rust. Screwing it on shouldn’t let that thread rust get into the oil flow.
I’ve seen this before on cartridge filters with a built in bypass. I haven’t used them. This one is be more inclined to if I could see well inside and wipe the threads down before refilling.
I purchased these from AmazonI wouldn't but I'm a bit obsessive. If you wipe the threads w/ an oily rag make sure to effectively turn the filter away from you.
Curios as to where you bought these from? Could truly be NOS![]()
Yes I have used Hengst a number of times in the past with no issues. This shipment was recievd on Monday. Probably the storage facility that it came from was no good!I think Hengst makes one of the best solid construction filters, but they are not meant to be stored long term and/or in humid environments. Even the cheap Asian made filters will most time be oil fogged on the can inside during manufacture to give some shelf stability against corrosion.
FWIW, I would have used that filter.
Rockauto by chance? They can have some old stale stock or buyouts sometimes.Yes I have used Hengst a number of times in the past with no issues. This shipment was recievd on Monday. Probably the storage facility that it came from was no good!
I missed that post before stating that.
IMO the trip over the ocean in a shipping container on a freighter is pretty humid too!Kinda explains why Japanese, Korean, Tawainese, and other SE asian filters have the plastic over the ends...its so darn humid in those countries.
