bought altima new from dealer in 2005, was in winter of ~2009 I had problems with no heat. that spring I found the overflow tank was empty and there was air in the system which trapped up in heater core causing sporadic no heat issue in the winter. Drained coolant and refilled with pink zerex asian formula. Been fine till now, I noticed yesterday that my overflow tank is low again, way below the low mark but still enough in there to prevent air getting into the radiator.
So where can the coolant be going?
Anybody familiar with this motor and might know a likely place where coolant might leak out?
I replaced spark plugs last week and there was no signs of abnormality on the electrodes so I doubt I'm burning coolant. And I didn't see any signs of coolant residue when I looked quick, at this point I'm guessing maybe lower radiator hose or heater core hose that's weeping every now and then under certain conditions.

these engines tend to use some coolant. There are also some that have developed HG issues...somewhat common on the 2.5 engine for some reason. Radiators are also common failures...usually slow leaks.

If you smell coolant coming from the vents chances are it could be leaking from the heater core. If there are no visible leaks get a used oil analysis done. May have a head gasket issue.

Also consider the water pump. If it has a weep hole, you might see tell-tale signs of minor seepage.
