Help Pick My Next Oil

The car is a 2002 MB E55, currently running Motul Xcess 8100 5w40... I have a used oil analysis posted on here as well.

Factory fill was Mobil 1 0w40 SL formula... Which was a pretty thick oil. Here's a spec sheet that I found to see what Mobil 1 0w40 once was...

I'd prefer a 229.5 or 229.3 oil... Open to everything, kind of tempted to try the Mobil 1 FS 0w40 but I figured it's much too thin. If I do run it... It'll be a short OCI.

Currently leaning towards Ravenol VST 5w40, Liqui Moly Leichtlauf 5w40, Pennzoil 5w40 the euro blend (whatever it's called now), and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

I'd steer clear of the LiquiMoly only based on my current experience with it in my truck. It's been the only oil that my 4Runner has consumed in the 65,000 miles that I've owned it. Id vote for the Pennzoil.

See if a Wal-Mart near you has 5 quart jugs of Castrol 0W40. It's made in Germany, contains real PAO in it and has titanium which is a better additive at reducing cold start engine wear.

Go with Mobil 1 you know what you are getting and there is a $12.00 rebate at wal mart..

+1 Castrol 0W40, but also why not stay with Motul? I liked the X-max 0W40 better than the X-cess 5W40, but it is also a matter of price and availability (which I don't have on Motul products).


Old Mobil 1 0W40 SL formula looks pretty good, wish we could still find some.

Mobil 1 0W-40 - no need to get complicated. It's not too thick, especially for SoCal.

I burn Motul Xcess 5w40, usually a little over half a quart every 2-3k. I never burned Royal Purple... That's why I want to try something new.

Castrol 0w40 looks interesting...

Quick question, which additive would quiet down an engine more? Moly or Titanium?

I think I'm looking for something that stands out... The 71 ppm of moly in Mobil 1 seems interesting, however the titanium in Castrol is interesting.

I haven't seen moly in any euro 229.5 oils, perhaps they are using an additive not being tested for.
