Help me value a 67k 88 riviera

Help me value a 67k 88 riviera (for a driver-not a show car)

So I go to see it this morning. Hood will not open.
A/C inop and fan speed inop.
Runs tad rough. Shifts OK

Body straight. No wrecks but it looked like a very small child had a minute with a ball-peen hammer on the hood. 3-4 tiny dents. Paint was good, clear coat good, roof all scratched. Door edges all chipped. Truck all scratched.

Headliner falling down
Armrest and drivers seat upholstery completely shot. Passenger ok. Rear Good


AC -$500
Seats Armrest -450
Tires -$350
Headliner -$175

-1475 off 2500 ??


Thoughts (I am using 2500 as a "OK" value for a driver as the paint issues will still be there.

2500$ for an 88 riveiera? Its 27 years old... I duno.. 500-1000 max.. but that's just me..

The way you describe it.. its a beater.. thus my opinion on price.

$1200? Maybe $1500 max based on your description. Personally I wouldn't consider this for a daily driver. Too many complex and unique parts - this is more of something someone buys for it's uniqueness to fix up and drive on the weekends.

On top of old car issues, it will have garage queen troubles from sitting. If you can drive it away, 1000 bucks. 87 was no where near the Riv's heyday

I get you but it is a 67,000 mile car. My guess from the condition (and car fax) is that it was barley driven and garaged for 25 years by 1 old person.
Then has been sitting out and driven for 2.
The owner now said it was here grandfathers and that makes sense.

Sounds like a POS. With all those problems, I doubt it saw much maintenance over those 67,000 miles.

unfortunately 67k miles does not matter. the age will have killed all the rubber parts. all the painted parts are beat up.. the interior is beat up.. whats left from it being garaged for 25 years? not faded interior?

for a commuter car I wouldnt buy it.

value maybe 1000$

Low miles doesn't matter in this case. Every rubber part on that car is 27 years old. Every single hose needs to be replaced, the suspension is 27 years old and probably needs a bit of work. It's a $1,200 car max to me.

How confident are you of the claimed mileage?
This seems like an awful lot of wear and tear for 67K of use.
I'd expect the headliner to be falling down in the manner typical of GM and other cars of this era given its age, but age alone didn't ruin the driver's seat upholstery or that of the center armrest. Lots of use did that.
GM used decent quality materials in its higher end cars.
My advice would be to offer a grand given all of the things this car needs and maybe get somebody to pull a Carfax, which might yield a higher number for miles run at some past date.

I would be hard pressed to pay more than scrap for it (about $300), i wouldn't want it, there isn't enough car there to make a worthwhile flip its just a headache in the making.
Its not even a very desirable Riviera unless it has some personal sentimental value to you, my instinct is to pass on this.

If this was any 60's Riviera or 71-73 or 95-99 its a totally different story.

It's a car that's nothing special. With that much wrong its value is current scrap price.

Don't know if it's worth it at that age. My older cousin got rid of his Riviera in 2007 because of constant electrical problems. It was either '86, '87 or '88 with that digital dash and big screen.

This is barely a $400 car, which is just a bit more than scrap value. Barely. Not sure where we are coming up with a $2500 valuation.

Nobody collects 1988 Buick Rivieras.

Garage kept in a temperate climate , $1000-$1500 .
Otherwise its a scrapper.

Just looking through auto trader 98 Riviera 88K on it, super charged Gen II (good one), looks like its in decent shape $2,300

I think they're beautiful cars. I've jump on one if I found a clean low mileage one. I like that shorter body style much better then the longer body style that followed.

I agree. I did do a car fax and it showed accurate but that does not mean it was not disconnected every year for 9 months.
Seat looks like it has 200k

I agree on the AC also. It could go very high.

I really didn't expect to see so rough a car.
