First of all hello and thank you, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. Tons of great info here, most of it over my head!

I'm looking for 1 oil that will work for all of my vehicles year round. Temperature range from cold starts down to -40 (not on a regular basis, rare occasion), to +90. Right now I'm running Valvoline Synpower 5w30, had to cold start truck at -20 today and got the " low oil pressure " alarm for a few seconds. Not a fan of that...

All vehicles/equipment spec 5w30. I'm looking at using a 0w-30.

I need it to be easily available, not interested in special ordering oil. I have these oils available:

Delo 400, Amsoil, Mobil 1 and whatever else Wal-Mart carries.

I've read hours of posts and I'm still undecided. There hasn't been any recent posts about Delo 400 0w30, is it still good? Is Mobil 1 the best for me? I've never used Amsoil.

All the talk of mrv and zddp and ccv and pour point has my brain numb.

Thanks

^^^The choice seems pretty obvious to me...

Welcome! Northern MT here. Been using Amsoil 0w30 for several years with vehicles outside and starts down to -35 and no issues with low pressure.

When it gets really cold, negative temps, I would recommend a engine warmer. Nothing fancy just enough to keep the oil flowing to start the car up.

For oil look at the specs for each one you can get easily. Some flow better at colder temps than others. Remember the Xw-X numbers are a range not exact.

Have a list with the model/engine?

I do plug in if I have electricity available which isn't always the case.

Vehicles are 2015 Skidoo Skandic WT 900 ACE, 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.0L Gas, 2002 GMC Yukon 5.3L Gas, 2007 Honda Rancher 420 (maybe can't run 0w30 due to the wet clutch?), 2000 Honda BF 50 Outboard, a few generators and lawn mowers.

Right now I'm using Rotella T6 5w-40 in the rancher and outboard. For the Skandic, skidoo recommends 0w-20 ($17/qt!) or 0w-40. http://xpslubricants.com/Content/Resources/XPS Extreme Cold Sell Sheet V1.pdf

Stinks about the synpower 5w30. You'd think it'd do better.

Are you on the Rancher when it's that cold?

Rotella 5w-40
Delo 5w-40
Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w-40

All are readily available, and will work across your equipment spectrum.

For all practical purposes, 0w30 can be used in any application where 5w30 can be used or is specified. That should help a little bit with the -40 starts, and won't hurt you in the +90 temps (I've used 0w30 in the desert southwest with temps over 100F ambient- its still a 30 weight at high temperatures so there's no issue.

For your 'fleet,' I'd probably go with Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 in the GM v8s, something like Delo 0w30 in the small engines and outdoor power equipment.
