help me choose between oils.

Hi all.

Will soon be changing the engineoil in my mazdra 1.8 mzr before winther.

I am choosing between to different valvoline oils. The requorement is api sl or acea a5/b5 according to the manual.

The oils ar.

1 valvoline synpower 5w30

My first priority is protection. Not fuel economy. Wich one will protect the engine best.

The FE version is the correct choice. The non-FE version is intended for ACEA A3/B4 applications, which means it is a thicker 5w30. Probably not necessary unless you are routinely racing the car.

Just throw some 15W40 in there! but seriously, Pennzoil Conventional or Pennzoil Platinum 5w30

Unfortunatly those brands are not available here.

Not really. We have plenty of brands to choose from. What is unfornate is that many og those brands are not sold in the US. Therefore the knowledge about them at BITOG is minimal. And yes. Oil seems to be verry cheap in the US compared to the prices here. I recently paid 84.61 USD for 5 litres of valvoline synpower fe.

But we can buy shell everywhere. Isen,t there something about Pennzoil and shell being the same?

Shell is the parent company of PZ. Each markets their own oil. If you can get Shell Synthetic 5w30 at a good price, do it, use it, and sleep well. Worry about something else, because your ride will be fine.
