Valvoline 0W-30 and 0W-40

Too bad Valvoline an American Company chooses not to market these oils in NA.
They both have a 183 VI and the 0w30 is significantly lighter than Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-30.

The specs on that 0w-40 look very outdated: ACEA A3-98, MB 229.3, BMW LL98...

What I'm more ticked off about is that their Synpower 5w-40 HST in the US is considered a shop product, so you won't find it in 1qt (or even 1 gal) bottles on the shelf. I bet Europe gets it in 1 liter bottles.

Valvoline in Ashland, KY does not seem very smart.

I rather like the 0w30 grade for apps where you can get away with an HTHS of less than 3.5 but for now you need to get Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 if you want that... off the shelf from Walmart..

... and with Redline 0W-20 oil around, you dont need to use or even look at a lot of 30 grades if you spring for it. 0w30 would change this.

PU does not seem to market their 0w30 either ..... nor does Castrol Edge.... just the older thicker Syntec... which is good oil just old and thick-ish..

The only light OTC 0w30 available in the States is Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 (HTHSV 3.0cP, 166 VI).
This oil seems to sell quite well.
Since M1 is the only competition I think Valvoline or another major is missing a marketing opportunity by not offering the 0w30 grade. The fact that no company spec's it hasn't put off Mobil.
There's a reason M1 has the largest synthetic oil market share in the States, their simply better marketers.

Where I'm located, I can easily located Synpower 5w-40 at Wal-Mart.

Caterham, is it fair to assume that since these are Euro oils, they are "real" synthetics and therefore not competitive in NA?

Yes, but what you have at Wal-Mart is Synpower 5w-40 MST, not HST. These are two different animals, unfortunately.

That's a good point, although even in Europe as far as I understand their labelling rules, to be labelled synthetic an oil need only contain "mostly" GP IV & V base oils. There are plenty of European synthetic labelled oils that contain up to 40% GP III.
Having said that Valvoline markets these oils as "fully synthetic" so who knows.

In most Provinces of Canada all oil sold retail contains HST (harmonized sales tax).

I'd be interested in the 0w-30. It claims to meet ACEA A5/B5-10.

Do they want to leave the entire 0w30 marketplace to Mobil?

If I lived up north I might be more interested enough to write them, but since they have flat-lined on the 0w-30/0w-40 marketing for NA I doubt they want to come back in vs M1/Castrol at least in the 0w30 market anyway.

Can their oils be purchased in Canada? That'd make more sense up there or perhaps the northern US.
