I want to move up to a better oil filter for my 2004 vibe.
I've used primarily Ac Delco. Currently have a Napa Gold on there now. Just thinking to move up. I'm considering Bosch or Purolator Pureone. Would one of these be better over the AC Delco or NAPA Gold? I haven't priced the P1 yet. I did check out the Bosch at Auto Zone today, price is $6.49. I looked at K&N Looked about the same except it had the "blue button" on the dome end like the AC Delcos. My AC Delco by the way (1233) is the non e-core version. The K&N is a little pricey at almost $16.00.
Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Any oil filter would serve you well if you dont do extended changes. I dont like E-cores or Frams and that is about the consensus across the board. The rest are all about the same. The Napa Golds are great filters, I use Purolators and never had a problem. I just use the regular Purolators and change every 4000 miles though.

I agree with Panzerman that a regular Purolator is all you need if you are not doing extended OCI's. If you are going over 5K on an OCI I would use Pureones.

I use PP and I usually go 5000-6000 miles between OCI. Are the Bosch and P1 the same filter? I'm worried about the restriction roomers about the P1. I've read the report someone put on here that a Purolator engineer responded to and gave flow data. I'm just skeptical though.

Same filter, 85% of the BITOG members cant be wrong. they are very good filters for the money

A Purolator Classic could be a step backwards. Perhaps 85% of the posts here support Purolator, but that is only due to a handful of frequent posters. Yes, I have over 8000, but I have been here since 03. If you really want to get into a good thread end bypass, you could go with a WIX or its NAPA or Carquest clones.

There is very, very little evidence that oil filters make much difference. Despite the disdain for Fram and Ecores here, the junkyards aren't full of engines that died before their time due to running them.

Whatever one you choose, get your money's worth out of it. Except for the orange can Fram, the quality level ..or more accurately the performance level is pretty much dictated by price. I'd say that M1, K&N, Royal Purple, and the Amsoil EaO would require exceptional drain lengths or time durations to work on the cost:benefit level.

Neptune, what's your annual mileage?

Gary, While my Grand Am sat because it needed a lot of repair work done, I drove the Vibe. My wife wanted to return to work, she's been a stay-at-home mom, so I got the grand am fixed and she drives the Vibe. When I drove it I'd say we were putting about 10,000 to 12,000 miles a year on it. Now my wife is more or less the exclusive driver and driving only 9 miles round trip to and from work, I would estimate the yearly mileage to be about 7,000 miles ( I still use it now and again).
Thanks.

For 5-6K OCI's there is not real need to go to a K&N, Mobil 1, RP, etc... The Napa Gold/Wix you have now is a very good choice. A regular Purolator would be fine too.

The Fram Extended Guard is an excellent product that's readily available for most common applications. I would use that or a Wix or Purolator Product. Stay away from the Tough Guard or Extra Guard models from Fram.

for the full flow filter napa gold (wix) is the best for the price they were on special on napa, not sure if the special still there, also mann filters are very good.

for best filtration that in addition to that a frantz bypass filter, make sure you have space under the hood for the frantz, for older cars the space is always there, for newer cars it might be a little bit more difficult finding the space.
