Happened this morning. Visited a site and immediately afterwards got all these popups. So, I figure, easy, I will just restore my system So I did that, restored my system to two days ago, Dec 27, 1 pm, Windows Update. Did not help, I am still getting these popups. I have not clicked on any of these popups.
What do I do?

Try an earlier backup. @factorytuned2012 is right. The infection is in Chrome. Actually, try this. Go into Chrome, Settings, click on Reset Settings, then Restore Settings to their Original Defaults. Then, while still in Settings, go to Privacy and Security, then Site Settings, click on Pop-ups and Redirects, and click on "don't allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects".

Now, go back to Site Settings, click Additional Content Settings, click Intrusive Ads and choose “Ads are blocked on sites known to show intrusive or misleading ads”.

Lastly, go to Extensions and if you see any weird/unknown extensions, uninstall them.

You can reload your windows software-there is a setting for keeping your files and it will take care of it. The only thing is any software that did not come on the computer originally will be erased-printer drivers, Chrome and Acrobat and the like.

That seems to have done it! Followed all your instructions and am not getting popups any more.

Google keeps changing where to find this stuff. It's a site permissions issue, as in you have somehow unknowingly allowed a site to push you these notifications. The notifications themselves are not an infection, only a nuisance. Just don't click on any of them because that's when the problems will start.

Copy/paste this into Chrome and hit Enter:

chrome://settings/content/all

Hit the Delete All Data button.

Or if you're worried about breaking something (it shouldn't), go down the list and delete anything that you don't recognize individually. This is all cached data that Chrome hangs onto for some reason that doesn't get cleaned when you tell it to delete all temporary internet files and cookies.

I use both Firefox and Chrome. The key is to run uBlock Origin (it's a browser extension). It blocks any of this stuff from happening. It also blocks ads in addition to having malware and spyware blocking.

I think the issue started today. I googled "Hawk Tuah" and clicked on one of the search results and immediately afterwards was inundated with popups.
Why did restoring my computer to two days ago not eliminate the issue? Is it because the issue was not in my computer operating system but in Chrome?
