Hello everybody,

Just wanted to say what a great site and very informative. Quick question.....I have an '03 Nissan Altima 3.5SE V6 which makes a mild timing chain rattle at startup after being dormant for a couple of hours (which disappears completely after a couple of minutes)....apparently according to Nissan and to Altima forums this is quite a common problem and there isn't anything to worry about....simply just a noise I have to deal with. Any suggestions in regards to oil/filter combos with these VQ's would be appreciated....currently running PP 5w30 with Napa Nascar oil filter.

Welcome to the site. I have an 03 G35 that doesn't rattle, but I'm thinking that maybe you need a new timing chain tensioner. You're description sounds like the chain is loose at start up.

You definately need to inspect the tensioner and tighten the chain.
