Health insurance increased 50 percent

Just received the notice from my healthcare insurance company. I used the Obamacare website initially. Mine went from $560.00/month to $671.00 next year (22%). I changed to an agent mid year and he is working on another plan within the same "family" of insurance.

I retired early and don't qualify for any government subsidizes.

You really can't change companies because in many cases that will mean trying to find other Doctors.

Can't get political on here but the problem(s) are obvious with this system.

Apparenty I can't read. Thought this was a thread on car insurance

Mine has been trending down. But I choose mine directly through market not employer. Probably more competitive that way? I dunno. Maybe it has to do with your state. My state tends to have higher insurance across the board compared to others. Goes for auto and everything.

If you're retired early, then to some extent, you control your "income". Can you not make it work for you so you get some subsidies?

Good point. If I wanted to not draw money out of retire funds to travel and what have you-then yes I could qualify. I have a buddy who has a million in the stock market and gets a subsidy because he lives very frugally. As you know-subsidizes are based on income not assets.

Do you use this or are you ill/sickly? It seems if you took more of the risk upon yourself (out of pocket wise) you could save some real money.

man.. 105/month (one person). $1500 max out of pocket. $15 prescriptions. $30 general copay/$50 specialist. 600 deductible.
this is aetna through my work. was cigna for past 10 years.
i cant imagine paying 2k a month. i wouldnt be able to live

Oh by the way this is a corporate policy myself and my wife... If it was just me the coverage would not be the same and it would be more money. If either my wife or myself worked for someone it would be cheaper but we are both self employed.

Mine was 748.00 a month (just me) Anthem Silver plan, got a notice just today that said its going up to 828.00 a month Jan 1st. i just want to cry.

There is NO way I could afford that.

It would be cheaper if he got a plan with a higher deductible. The most he has to pay is $300 if he needs to go to the emergency room. I have a 6000 dollar deductible.

That's about 10%ish. It's a bargain I would take an increase like that. However, I know we are all in different situations.

Started with this HMO self-employed plan in 2009 at $440/month for 2 and $10,000 deductible. It was by far the cheapest plan available in the state. It's gone up 8-25% per year since. Finally had to get off it as it was no longer remotely affordable.

In 2017 I think this plan is up to around $1200/month in premiums with $12K deductable. No dental. The only benefit under the deductible is an annual physical (80% covered). You pay for everything else. Basically, you're spending $25K per year if you have significant medical care.

I have heart issues and use my insurance a lot thank goodness i know my doctors well and they don't bang me for copays..

It looks like i have another problem that i may need to be hospitalized for i had an off the record echo today and i may have mitral valve stenosis requiring either a balloon valvotomy or possibly surgery.. Never a dull moment.. I had a mitral valve repair about 7 years ago.. I also have afib.. I usually feel ok but lately i am very tired we even cancelled a vacation we were planning.

Our family of 3 is $600 a month. Ages 41, 21, & 15. It is going up $100 more in January. Yay.
