I think the problem is the engine conditions and the type of oil for the filter to clog up.

I'm willing to bet that using Donaldson in the same engine and oil, it would clog up like the cheap filter.

At some point every filter fills up. The Donaldson filter has twice the surface area of the other filter. But don't worry, I haven't finished cutting filters. It will get its chance.

Sorry, IMO the filter is not the issue here. There is no way both filters were run on the same engine regardless of what oil was used. Not in the little mileage stated each filter was used.

just not gonna happen to have two filters, same engine and one look like the one on the right

That diesel oil filter looks like it is doing its job. Oil color is deceiving, that ink hue is normal. How "gritty" was the oil and did any of the pleats cave in?

Note that in the last picture, the next filter cut, the ends have completely separated from the paper element. There is no filtering going on. even the glue is circulating through the engine as grit.
I'll be adding the "virgin" picture to my site as soon as I get a chance.

I think we are all a bit confused as to what conclusions if any can be drawn from these pics and info. My seat of the pants tells me there's no way an oil can look that bad at those mileage intervals. But hey, it's Bolivia, things might be different there. I will say this; Widman you have a bright economic future if this is what you see on a regular basis.

Steve

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Based on my own experience, some filters can be VERY bad. Maybe there isn't enough evidence for an air tight case here, but this is a filter, not a person. Guilty until proven innocent!

By the way Richard, I like to check in every month or so to see how the Corvair is coming!
