Havoline Synthetic Blend. 5-30

I'm having a hard time understanding the whole "Synthetic Blend" craze? I can understand people not wanting synthetic in certain applications. And others not wanting dino based oils any longer. I myself am in that group. Personally, I think the full synthetic oils are noticeably better performing. From both a lubrication and longevity standpoint. And well worth their additional cost.

But I'm not getting this whole "blend" thing? To me it's a bit like blending half Nutrasweet, and half sugar in a cola. You get the benefit of neither. And the bad side of both.

And if it's cost, it's false economics. Look at the overall operating costs of a modern vehicle today. Purchase price, depreciation, insurance, licensing, fuel, maintenance, and repair. And the measly few bucks you're going to save on utilizing a "synthetic blend" motor oil, are all but microscopic to non existent.

No craze here for me. This was pure pricepoint for my kids incoming car. I used Motorcraft 5-30 blend when I had the 2004 F150 and it performed well. If not the price for this oil, I would have gone ST synthetic 5-30 and never looked back.

SN+/GF-6A. This engine would be fine on older stock as well.

5-30 works pretty well for my climate here in NY. Coldest extreme temp at my home was a -9F but that has been very rare over the 17 years I've lived here. We have a few cold snaps but 20's to 30's are much more common. Summer extreme heat is mid 90's.
A 5W30 with the most recent GF6-A sounds perfect to me. Nice work.

If it is a burner, I may not be doing any oil changes! Just fill and change filter every now and then. I'm hopeful it is not the case.
2006 through 2008 2.4l engines were made with defective piston rings. It will eventually burn oil but with less than 50K on the clock it should be okay for now. Keep a close eye on it.
