Noticed on local Walmart shelves last night that Motorcraft oil is gone, gone, gone. But the new Havoline SM dino is $1.42/qt, as opposed to the old Havoline SL dino which went for about $1.17 or so. $1.42 is same price MC used to be at Walmart. So looks like Havoline is their replacement for MC. But the main question - is Havoline SM as good as MC SM? I suppose only UOAs will tell the real story.

Havoline is good oil also. The 5w20 flavor is a little thin though at 8.0 cst vs Motorcrafts almost 9.0. Some have reported excellent UOAs with it nonetheless. Pretty sure it won't grenade your engine.

Look for the TropArtic for $1.14/qt. Made by ConocoPhilips (just like Motorcraft) and from what I understand is practically the exact same oil.

I agree that the Havoline dino (and their synth for that matter) are excellent oils. The only area their new SM 5W-20 and 5w30 oils fall down compared to the equivalent MC oils is in cold cranking viscosity, for example cP @ -30 C. The Havoline oils have much higher numbers than MC. So not as good as MC in winter here in the Minnesota tundra.

Saw troparctic in "dollar tree" for $1/qt, 10w30 and 10w40. First time seen anywhere in my region.

First time I saw it; label looks a little 1970s. Maybe they laid off the graphic designer to hire another chemist.

Lots of stuff in Walmart ends in wierd prices like .42, it's their psychology that the consumer believes "Wow, this must be at its absolute cheapest price.... they didn't round up to the nearest .99"

I bet havoline will be available at places other than wally's for $1/qt when on sale. With SM oils significantly more expensive (at least for now) I'm hoarding SL stock available everywhere on clearance.

The Phillips 66 that I have seen at Walmart for $1.14 or so has all been SL rated oil, not SM. So I wonder if when the SM rated Phillips hits the shelves if its price will be up, similar to what happened with Havoline?

Keep in mind that the only ConocoPhillips SM oils discussed in the company's press releases as being synthetic blends are only available so far as 5W-20 and 5w30 viscosities. 10w30 synthetic blend should be available by spring, though.

I was at my local Wal-Mart yesterday and the MC oil is gone. FormulaShell now sits in that shelf space. The MC oil filters are still there so I grabbed a FL-2005 even though the price had gone up fifty cents to $3.47. I also checked out the new Mobil 1 and was happy to find the old Mobil 1 is still $19.99 for a 5 qt jug.
