Havoline now API SQ and ILSAC GF-7A

Actually I called them years back and its on here. Their policy was their oil was good for the manufacturers recommended OCI.....
Isn't that what they all say in the fine print?

I used to buy Chevron in the day but it's no deal today...
I still run blend in my Xterra. I used to use this - but you can't even get it anymore I don't think. My last 3 changes I have used the havoline blend box, but I don't want to store any boxes so I buy it then use it. Feels sort of like being naked, not having a couple extra oil changes in the cue for that one rig.

I really don't understand there marketing plan, or lack thereof.

They said that for the blend as that's what we talked about. That showed me they had confidence in the product. I agree, no marketing whatsoever. Either get in the game or get out... It seems like they aren't willing to invest or don't have the funds...

Chevron doesn’t either.

Don’t feel bad.

I've got a ton of the Chevron semi including some SP... latest but it was rather cheap then. I still have the old PYB from the supposedly GTL dumping days....

Chevron is attempting to come to market again with PCEO’s in their re-alignment.

I’m actually *heavily* involved with this, to the point I can’t talk publicly about a lot of what’s going on. Best I can say publicly is we signed as a Chevron distributor last year.

They have a ton of work to do, but they’re actually highly motivated to do the work for a major oil company.

That being said, they’re also currently the largest producer of PCEO ad packs in the U.S. and of course, a huge base oil producer in the group II/III markets.

So they have an interesting… shall we say, story?

I don’t know everything they’re cooking up. But the stuff that is there, is interesting.

If they would make 5 quart boxes or get the 5 quart jugs down to a competitive price point then I’d be all over some Havoline. All my vehicles take 4.xx quarts. I see no compelling reason to pay more per quart or deal with a left over quart every time compared to other options.
Keep the extra oil in a jug and collect from other jugs. Every 4th oil change, you’ll have enough left over for that following 5th one.

Thought about that before. But not really interested. I just use other brands that make 5 qt jugs which is pretty much everyone cause that is the standard. I don’t like keeping a bunch of oil around.

I see

The official release date for SQ and GF-7A is tomorrow actually (March 31), so we will start seeing all of the major oils with these new approvals on the labels now. In reality the manufacturers have already been putting the new formula in their old packaging, that started back in the fall. So if you can decode the different production dates then you might find out that you already have oil in your stash that is SQ and GF-7A
Dang, about to move my stash from GF5 to GF6 LoL

Chevron has some really talented engineers working for them. I used to work for them in their CPEM (Chevron Power & Energy Management) division at the founding of that division. One of my combustion turbines had a varnish issue. Chevron sent out engineers to assist. They ended up coming up with a couple different oil formulations to treat the varnish buildup (that was causing high oil temperatures and part temperatures in portions of the unit). Funny thing about that project was the amount of cleaning their formulations produced necessitated very frequent filter changes. That caused research into better/higher holding capacity filters & working with Donaldson to make us synthetic oil filters for our fleet of GE Frame series turbines.

I didn't agree with several directions corporate decided to go with but just the level of talent Chevron employs is impressive at times.

I found a few PYB quarts a few days ago in my inventory from like 2005, SM rated oil.
I will use it on next oil change.

Out of all the major oil companies I’ve worked with, they’re by far, the most talented engineering wise. Where others might have 2-3 really good people, Chevron has a half a dozen in every region.

So complete agreement with you there. From formulation to end user they certainly have an advantage in the industrial market. At least in terms of problem solving and being solution oriented.

PCEO is all marketing and bluntly, on the large scale, bribery. Through credit accounts, dispensing equipment, volume incentive rebates, etc. Which they’re just not strong at yet. But they’re learning quickly.

One post called out their 10,000 mile OCI advertisement. But we all know “it depends.” A lot of companies throw a number on a label and then a ton of fine print. I believe that’s just the number they decided to throw out on the bottle. I can quote Tommy boy on that, but I think everyone knows it…

Chevron has several internal rules about bribery, kickbacks, etc... When I was there (left in 2016) they went pretty far above & beyond what the law holds corporations to about "incentives". Granted, the majority of the training was focused on international business practices but there were several examples of domestic activity that ended up with people being "held accountable". The last part was loss of employment at the minimum. There's likely plenty of internal policy that needs to be rewritten to allow them to onboard some aggressive marketing.

Yeah they definitely do have some aggressive policies on it.

But that’s why you let the jobber / marketer / distributor (whatever word you want to call it) get dirty.

At the end of the day, I’ll be the first to say this end of the business isn’t squeaky clean. I’ve been pretty upfront about it.
