Havoline Lifelong available at Walmart and Amazon

Just suppose if Havoline Pro-Ds was sold in stores at Walmart in one Qt,and 5 Qt jugs at a very competive price, it would be a good sell, as it's a very good oil in its various applications.

Yes. World class formulation expertise completely disinterested in light duty passenger markets.

Formulation is good. As I said, good product.

Just Chevron lubricants U.S. doesn’t have the drive to market it competitively. There’s a lot of reasons why. They’re good and competitive in their market segment - heavy duty, industrial and marine.

I’d happily use it except I don’t need 6 qts of oil. All our vehicles take 4 qts and change. The leftover fraction is easily put into a qt container for misc or later use. But the extra full qt and change is more of a pain so no Havoline for me. Also use the plastic jug for used oil disposal.
That is a great oil IMHO, but I only use it in my 6qt vehicles for the same reasons. There are quality oils in 5 quarts for just a buck more. So, easy. OTOH, my neighbor uses 6qt havoline in 5 qt vehicles and uses the extra for his lawnmower and generator.

Ya. I agree. 6 qts box isn't convenient if your car uses 4-4.5 qts. However, my cousin loves the 6 qts box because he has larger engines that have a 6 qts or larger capacity.

However, I have a new strategy that would allow me to use 6 qts box with some convenience. If I change oil in 3 cars around the same time, then I need 13 quarts. So 2 boxes of Pro DS Lifelong from Walmart plus one quart of Pro DS from NAPA. I go to NAPA for NAPA Gold oil filters. So it's no extra hassle for me to buy a qt of Pro DS from NAPA.

Then I'll have an empty 1 qt Pro DS bottle that I can use to store any future leftovers.

That plan reduces the hassle of 6 qts box for my smaller engines that have less than 6 qts capacity. But I admit it's still a minor nuisance for smaller engines.

P.S. - When you said Pro DS at Walmart, are you referring to Pro DS or ProDS Lifelong?

Pro-Ds and Lifelong are two different oils, as the Lifelong is more designed for higher milage engines and the Pro-Ds is the regular formula ,both have some group 4 oil in base, about 5-10% and group 3 with a higher percentage, ,with a Oronite add pac.

I'm aware that they're two different oils. That's why I asked which of those oils you were referring to when you mentioned Pro DS at Walmart. The only version of Pro DS sold at Walmart is Pro DS Lifelong (or Lifelong for short).

The Lifelong box says Pro DS Lifelong on the box.

Pro DS is the name of a product, but is also is the name of a product line containing 3 subcategories of products. Chevron's maketing people. 🤷

I've seen Chevron use these names on the boxes to indicate 3 different oils in the Pro DS product line:
Pro DS
Pro DS Lifelong
Pro DS Euro

I often use those ^ 3 names when I type because they're reasonably brief and are the names on the boxes. In Chevron's website sometimes those ^ names are used.

Othertimes on Chevron's website the following names are used for those oils:
Pro DS Full Synthetic
LIFELONG High Mileage Full Synthetic
PRO-DS Full Synthetic Euro

Those 3 oils are group 3-plus oils, which have equivalent performance to GTL. It's my understanding that those oils have excellent Oronite additive packages. Correct me if I'm mistaken about anything.

Chevron is not consistent in what it names/calls those 3 oils. BITOGers often make up their own shortened names for those oils, such as:
Pro DS when meaning Pro DS.
Lifelong when meaning Pro DS Lifelong.
Havoline Euro or Pro DS Euro when meaning Pro DS Euro.

We can be forgiven for getting confused over naming-wording because Chevron is inconsistent, which makes it's challenging for BITOGers to be consistent.

The Chevron Havoline ProDS product line (of 3 oils) is good, but Chevron marketing terminology is disorganized and confusing.

Lifelong is only a 6qt box deal, and the pro-ds is single qt and 5 qt and larger bulk.
True, but Walmart doesn't sell Pro DS, though it does sell Pro DS Lifelong. I may have misunderstood what your original point was.

Was your original point that you wish Walmart offered Pro DS or Lifelong in 5 qts jugs? If so, I agree.

My 2018 Sierra 5.3 takes 8 qts, so I’d need two boxes just like I would with any other plastic 5 quart jugs. Without the clear window running down the entire side of the box to get the last 2 quarts in, it might be too much of a pain to deal with. But for my son’s 2020 Terrain which takes 6 quarts, this would be perfect.
On the 5.3’s - I use the oil filter for two 5K runs - so 3 jugs is perfect bcs the 2nd change is 7 quarts and very quick with a Fumoto valve …

I have two 8 quart and two 5 quart engines …
6 quart containers are not ideal …
So you need 26 quarts total. My 3 cars combined need 13 total.

My favorite 2 synthetic oils are:
Havoline All/High Mileage Lifelong Full Synthetic
Valvoline Maxlife Extended Protection High Mileage Full Synthetic

Let's compare prices for 13 qts.

From Walmart buy: Two 6 qts boxes = 12 qts H All/High Mileage LL FS = $56
From NAPA buy: 1 qt bottle ProDS = $12
13 qts total = $68 total

From Walmart buy: Two 5 qts jugs = 10 qts Valvoline MaxLife Extended Protection High Mileage = $58
From Walmart buy: Three 1 qt bottles = 3 qts Valvoline MaxLife Extended Protection High Mileage = $27
13 qts total = $85

From Walmart buy: Three 5 qts jugs = 15 qts Valvoline MaxLife Extended Protection High Mileage = $87 Total
Using this approach I'd have 2 qts left, but I have no use for leftover oil because none of my cars lose oil between oil changes.

So I think 6 qts boxes works well when I need 13 quarts total. I'd use an empty 5 qts jug to measure out the appropriate amount for each car.

I already go to NAPA to buy NAPA Gold oil filters. So it's no extra hassle to buy 1 quart of ProDS while I'm at NAPA.

Advance Autoparts sells 1 qt bottle of ProDS for $9.49. If I was going to buy that then I'd also buy Advance Auto Carquest Premium filters which are made by Premium Guard and are approx equivalent to NAPA Gold.

13 eh?

OK. Sorry. You need 26 quarts total? Needing that much oil makes the price even more important.

Four 6 qts boxes of Lifelong from Walmart = 24 qts = $112
Two 1 qt bottles of ProDS = $19 from Advanced Auto Parts.
Total $131

How else can you buy 26 qts of good G3+ or GTL High Mileage oil for $131? If you buy Carquest Premium oil filters, then you'd already be going to Advance Auto.

If you have an empty 5 qts jug... Use 5 qts jug to measure qts of oil. Then pour from the jug into engine.

I was at my local Biglots the other day and they sell Havoline in 5qt jugs and 1qt singles as well. They also had Smitty's oil for sale

ProDS is sold in 1 qt bottle and 5 qts jug at Advance Auto Parts for decent prices. However, the ProDS Lifelong High Mileage is only sold at Amazon and Walmart.

Specifically which Havoline oil does Big Lots sell? Sadly we no longer have a Big Lots in my town.
Sorry i don't remember. Know for sure one was High Mileage but think it was the blend, maybe idk. Next time I get over to the shopping center I'll try and stop back.
