a lot of Northstars burn a quart in 400 miles , this is from poor GM design.

A lot of folks have high mileage engine s that don't consume any oil so I don't think what I said is entirely accurate.

Most 4-valve engines that like to rev high will use some oil, and my original comment was supporting the reply to Pablo that if he drove his Odyssey hard(er), that it might begin to consume oil. This isn't a bad thing, in fact, it's operating exactly as designed.

My V6 TOCOMA has 421,000 miles on it and doesn't burn a drop of oil with 5,000 miles oil changes.

I noticed the same thing with a Dodge 4.7L with Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 which actually specifies a 10W30 over 100 degrees. Shouldnt be too much longer before we reach 100 here.... Anyway it always started off at the top then at the end of an oci (3k) its in the middle. When I started this experiment, I overfilled it a touch. Its still overfilled with 3,200mi on it... UOA to come in about say...1800mi?
Although its the first synthetic run, so I fear it would read high wear if I had 15w40 or 0W20 in there...
Its awesome seeing the dummy pressure gauge head for the middle as soon as it starts up.
You getting that great free-revving feeling yet? Too early for me to really guage but I overfilled it a little too on my current first fill of Pennzoil Platinum so we will see if it even uses any of that. I'm going to keep it about a little overfilled since I got a slightly bigger filter this time as well.

Some is hung up in the oil filter, you know...that's part of the difference....

My 2001 Corolla that I bought with 6 miles on it, burned 1qt every 2,500 miles to 3,000 miles and ran like new when I traded it in with 180,000. Now many people I know have any oil consumption at all with that engine. Didn't seem to matter. I didn't break-in the engine the right way. Put very little load on it.

Buster, what oil did you use with your 2001?

Well, of course it's not THAT much difference! That is significant!
The oil filter in my Corvette is small, and only holds maybe a half quart at most. When I fill it at oil change time I put in 7L of oil, and when I drained it out at the end of my last interval (which was 8000 miles) I noticed that only approximately 5L came out.
