Havoline 10w30

I had been using Amsoil synthetic for the past few years for my Jeep and just switched over to Havoline conventional on my last oil change after completing the Auto-rx treatment. I didn't feel like paying $5.00-$6.00 per qrt for synthetic anymore plus I hear that Havoline is a really good conventional oil. I was wondering whether or not to switch to 5W30 for the winter. Anyone have the pour point figures on 10w30 and 5w30? Thanks.

In New Jersey it would probably be a good idea to run some 5w30 before the cold sets in.

jeepzj, I've been using Chevron Supreme in my Cherokee, it's almost the same as Havoline, just small differences in the amounts of Calcium, Magnesium, and moly.

I also don't want to pay $5 a quart for oil, if I can get good stuff for less.

I live near Seattle, and use 10W30 all year, I know it gets colder in NJ, but I'd stay with 10W30. Jeeps warm up pretty fast.

Thanks for the replies guys. Maybe I should go with 5W30 for the winter at my next oil change which should be by mid December. Anyone have those pour point numbers anyway?.... just curious.

pour point numbers are often considered useless. You can probably find the tech data sheets on chevron texaco's website, if you really want them.

I think 10w30 is fine for most engines in NJ. Ive lived there all my life (contrary to my location in my profile here), and even though it gets cold, it inst ever THAT cold for that long. a 10w30 and 5w30 will both work fine at 0F, so long as theyre not too heavily oxidized, etc. If the oil is older or beat up, some of the viscosity modifying additives may not be doing their best work...

My father has 180k runing 10w30 in his toyota...
