Hatchback with Decent Performance

You know my feelings on that.

Plus come on...

Or the new one.

I like the Rs, too.
I could also be okay, with an S model.
I don't know if I should believe all the griping about the infotainment interface. I suppose I could wait a year. Some say that a fix is coming.

I once owned a 2013 GTI. I'd fold the rear seats down, pop the front wheel off and put the bike in the back. The pedal left an indentation mark despite weighing about 20 pounds and sliding the bike in & out wasn't ideal.
Where was the indentation? I was thinking that a sturdy mat might help.

I wouldn't be putting a bike in something and carving up the interior.

Get the car you like and put a hitch and bike rack on it.
In many situations, out of sight is better and out of the weather is nice too. If I'm going biking after work, I want the bike in the car all day, and not getting UV'd. Also if you bike in the winter, racks and bikes don't like salt. Probably a cream colored interior is a bad idea but bikes trump car interiors for me anyways...

What are your needs, wants price range? Be specific what you’re looking for.

Kia soul and Nissan kicks interest me. If you need awd probably better looking at a cuv. If I needed awd I’d check out the Impreza 5dr maybe a cross trek but that’s moving into the cuv territory

I always been a Toyota guy and would look at the Corolla cross but I’m not liking the local dealer pricing they’re really mugging the consumer but this is common just about everywhere these days.

Higher up with better visibility in traffic, doesn’t scrape on driveways, won’t get stuck as easily on a rough road, has more legroom, has more cargo space, retains value better, easier to work on.
Here are some more
Super comfortable ride at any speed. Mind blowing quiet, Living Room type interior and comfort compared to small cars.
Utility is priceless.
Slide a 65 inch TV into the back.
Pick up stuff at home improvement stores with ease. 6 foot trees, 20 bags of mulch, lawn mowers, never a problem
Cruise all day long in peace and quiet effortlessly at 85MPH interstate speeds. If you want to break the law, you can do 100 comfortably

Your buying an SUV who cares about efficiency, I can do all the above and still get 20+ MPG
The cost is nothing. Im talking mid size SUV but much of the above can be scaled down to "compacts"

That looks interesting. Do you have one?

No , not yet . Here's a recent review by MOTORWEEK that was watched last night . It got 43 M.P.G. . It's the top of the line with A.W.D.. Would go with base or mid level . The ground clearance is 8.1inches . Good luck on your car quest . Keep us updated .

I would recommend the red line CVT fluid. some say it has Pao or esters but you definitely want one that's going to hold up. some of them just look too thin.

And my GTI does what the compacts do with a bit less ground clearance. I just don't care to sit up like that. It pronounces body roll and gives up some steering feel. To be honest as a straight utility purchase I completely get it, it's smart packaging. It's just not the packaging I'm looking for and I understand completely the line of thinking that started this thread.

Getting 20mpg while covering as many miles as I do these days really adds up. Is it possible I'd have a bit more convenience if I kept our SUV or truck? Sure, but the trade offs in operational costs for fuel and a less sporting driving experience didn't interest me. It's just more vehicle than I could make sense in my own head to use. We need our vehicles to do so many things these days as with cost most of us don't have a toy in the garage for the weekend. I just leaned closer to the weekend toy instead of the larger vehicle.

Kind of pathetic cargo space though 21 cuft, slightly less than a 2012-18 Focus hatch, similar acceleration... The regular Corolla-cross gets similar mileage to the old Focus, but is much much slower.
An awd golf sportwagen I think beats almost any compact SUV at everything, but ride height, and their resale value shows that lots of people feel the same, but they are gone...

We've had a Ford Edge. Even bought the Sport with the larger 3.7. It was the most interesting version of the Edge at the time, but it's no hot hatch. Beyond that we had serious reliability issues. I'd post the picture of it being loaded up by Carvana, but apparently IMGBB is down right now.

IMGBB is back up, here it is!

Where ? I can't see it .

My 2019 Lexus UX 250h F-Sport had a ~30hp electric motor at the rear axle. This all gave it a "magic carpet ride" driving experience.

My 2022 Corolla Cross is durable but underpowered, so CC Hybrid, with a little more hp is on point.

The Integra is a darn good idea too.

My favorite was a Subaru wagon 5mt with a solid (homemade) roof rack which held 3 MTB. Really, a sedan would work too, but the wagon rocked when driving to multi-day events. The wagon roofline was friendly to loading and unloading. A CRV or other reasonably-low-roofed SUV would be stellar, with good utility space inside as well. Our 15 CRV would easily handle MTB insjde as well, while averaging 27 mpg. On the other hand, you might be sad driving something that feels a little bit like your wife’s car. I really preferred roof carry.

I’ll second the 3 series wagon idea, if you can find one. Volvo s60 wagons still show up from time to time. (Both require some talc). Volvo xc60 and v60 suvs prior to 2018 seem long-lived if you stay on top of maintenance and if you avoid 2012-2013; and have traditional automatics.

3 series wagons are fairly rare and hold price. One with manual is worth almost as some decent new cars.

.
Ah, there it is. Says its a sedan.
The RS6 is an actual hatch.
“Hatchback body style provides excellent utility”….doesn’t this say HATCHBACK?
and isn’t the RS6 a wagon? Looks like a wagon, car press calls it a wagon.
RS 7 below That is a hatch!

Was my Trans Am a hatchback? What about the Kia Stinger? How does the rs7 differ structurally?
