I also thought it odd they had to get that little dig in. "It didn't happen to us and thus we refuse to acknowledge our new design sucks, but we'll go back to the old design anyway....."

They touched on this a little in the video livestream I posted. I guess the testing is all automated and in a controlled environment. They should give a few tools out to people that will use them in the real world before going “live” with a new product. Heck, in this case all they had to do was test it on some lug nuts out in the parking lot.

How are the Dewalt impacts? Reliable?

My fiancé's Dad has a big 1/2" drive Dewalt impact that is a beast. He loves it and I used it recently on getting out a broken off spark plug. We used it a year or so ago to take the bolts out of the bed of a 97 GMC truck so we could get to the gas tank to replace the pump. It worked great on that too. I plan on getting one myself at some point. I have a smaller Dewalt impact that had held up fine for several years.
