Do you know why the last one blew? Your second one was covered by warranty, but not the first one?

It just seems really extreme. Like warped heads or something?

Hi

The 3800 Series III started using the metal framed this year. Prior to that, GM had a "improved" plstic framed using black sealant bead and metal rings to prevent overtorquing.

FelPro also has a "improved" plastic framed gasket which I have in mine (1 yr and 54,000 miles).

I just did a friend's '99 LeSabre using the aluminum framed LIMs and the Dorman UIM. Mopar LongLife went in after dex was purged.

If these jobs arent done right the first time using proper proceedure and the PermaDry FelPros ( 606 engines) then failure is only postponed. Use new bolts as well as threadloc and torque in sequence using proper specs.

I am disappointed that GM still has a problem with Intake Manifold gaskets. These are a low cost and low tech item, but costs to the owners are high due to the labor involved. GM has had problems with the 3.1/3.4 and the Buick 3.8 as often mentioned in this site. However, it has been just as much a problem with the Chevy 5.7L (350 cu. in.) V8 in cars and trucks. Some theories of the cause have been 1./ Improper torquing of the manifold at the factory, 2./ the long life Dex Cool coolant causing the gaskets to corrode and 3./ poor design of the manifold and /or gasket.
