I've tried a number of different gear oils in my attempt to 'cure' the rough 1=>2 cold shift. Redline MT-90/MTL blend and Royal Purple Max Gear offered very modest improvements, but not to the level I'd like. Shifting is still rough, especially when the car is cold.
Has anyone tried the SF oil in their 350Z? How do you like it?

No Z here but my 5spd tranmission had similar problems. The SF MTL-R gave me the best results overall out of all the stuff i've tried in this finicky box.

Redline MTL or MT 90 has been reported as better shifting, or commonly, a little better with notchiness.
Spec. Form. gear lubes [except for one far out report] have been reported as excellent in shift feel, and have great specs on paper.

I don't have the same vehicle or use the same tranny fluid but I did try SF's SynchroGlide in my tranny that requires ATF and the ****ing improved tremendously. It's more viscous than ATF, 9.5cST vs 7-7.5cST for ATF. Yet in the teen F temps it shifted easier and smoother than the semi-synthetic ATF I was using. Also previously I would crunch too frequently when going from 1st to 2nd. Now it doesn't do it. It's a smooth and quiet shift. And it's getting better as I put more miles on it. I only have about 125 miles on it now. No fluid will cure mechanical faults of a tranny but SF's seem to help the tranny operate the "best" it's able to. Give SF a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Mika, what did you decide to try?

And what does the manual for the Z recommend ... 75W-85? I know my Nissan does and I'm very happy with my SpecForm MTL-P.
