Harley Davidson Owners w/100,000 Miles on Bike

These people crack me up! What difference does it make when it comes to guys riding bikes in a group, how many cylinders you have, how they're arranged, what it says on the gas tank, etc? These people remind me of the old out-of-touch-with-reality, snooty codgers down south who own the fancy golf courses and club houses and only let a very specific type of person belong to their club. Does anybody like snooty people?

Grampi, Post like this are why you're one of my top 5 most entertaining members here. You've spent the last week telling us how inferior Harley's are, and how those that buy them are dumb and blinded by marketing. Now you ask if anyone likes snooty people.

That doesn't mean I won't ride with them. I will ride with anyone regardless of what they ride, and I will also stop to help anyone on the side of the road regardless of what they ride. On the road, all motorcyclists are part of the brotherhood...it's in forums like this where we have our differences of the brands...

No they ride it from their home garage to the dealer on Saturday and/or Sunday mornings go to breakfast or lunch or maybe dinner and back home. After a year or two of that and about 6,000 to 12,000 miles on the bike they then trade it in to the Harley Dealer at a loss and complain about how the dealer raped them on the trade value then they justify to everyone that they buy their Harleys because they hold their value.

It is an endless cycle.

After a year or two of that and about 6,000 to 12,000 miles on the bike they then trade it in to the Harley Dealer at a loss and complain about how the dealer raped them on the trade value then they justify to everyone that they buy their Harleys because they hold their value.

I get a kick out of the HOG chapters. It is their chance to dress up like pirates and shun anyone who does not ride a Harley.

I think Harley is in a bit of a crisis right now, their main buyers are in their late 50's, 60's and 70's. I have read where Harley is really going after the Hispanic market now and with our current don't protect our own borders policy they will have plenty of potential customers, the only problem is I doubt many of them will ever have enough money to afford a Harley.

My local Harley dealer adds any where from 2,000 to 8,000 dollars above and beyond the MSRP of all their Harleys and they won't budge from those prices.
 
Whip, Thanks for the informative post on motorcycle comparative prices. Interesting to see how close pricing is in each segment when sold new. It looks like the big gap in pricing happens when these motorcycles are sold a few years or more down the road as used motorcycles. Interesting!
 
One thing is for sure:

Harleys are junk
Harleys are the best bikes made.
a Harley will never get to 100k
All Harleys will easily go well over 100k
Metric bikes are better and worse than Harleys

That is all I got to say about that....

I'm not sure where in Florida you are but around here they ask MSRP. Just like the other dealers. I'm glad you like your HOG membership. I've ridden with the local HOG chapter and never had a problem on the Honda or Yamaha. Never saw a pirate on a ride. Most of my Harley friends are under 50 with a lot under 40. The vibration on my Road Star would put your hands asleep after 200 miles. My CBX is good for about 100 miles before you need to stop. I'm getting ready to buy a new bike for a 6000 mile ride next month. Maybe a Goldwing, BMW GTL, or a Ultra Limited. All within $500 of each other with the Honda costing the most. What do you ride?

They may all be priced within $500 of each other, but the Honda and the BMW are far superior machines than the Harley...
 
Thanks How many miles have you ridden each one? What did you like or not like about each one?
What makes one superior over the other one?

I rode the BMW GTL for 250 miles today. Nice bike but the owners complain a lot about tire mileage. Not sure I want to put a rear tire on every 5000 miles. Most of my trips I would have to stop and put a tire on it.

How do you know that one is better made than another? Do you have facts or are you just a pretending to be a bike rider.

I have owned Honda,Yamaha,Kawasaki,BMW,BSA,Triumph,Harley,Jawa,Husqvarna,and Bridgestone motorcycles. All of them had design problems and I do the work on every bike I've owned and do work on friends bikes. I rode a new Goldwing last night and will ride it today as soon as the rain stops. Gas mileage is very low vs the BMW GTL. 30 vs 38 for 250 miles. I rode a new Harley Limited mileage was 39. I'll get a Harley tomorrow again for 2 days.
Wife hated the BMW rear seat position. She said there is no way she can do 500 mile days. Cost to change seats and add GPS to match Honda and Harley would be $1300. Not sure she would like it after I spent the money.

I'll have two 2014 touring bikes in the garage for us to ride. The Limited will need the drivers seat lowered. That's about $150 local. Goldwing will also need the seat lowered so thats $200 local. (bigger seat pan) Limited as a 6 speed but Goldwing has reverse. This is what I've found so far on these 3 touring bikes.

Buy the Harley then...good luck with that...and is there any particular reason you're not considering a Victory?

You're hilarious! It's Harley owners who live in a fantasy world and ignore facts...they believe in fairy tales and think that motorcycles have souls. Do they go to heaven when they die too?

Harleys don't die..everyone I have ever owned is still running in one incarnation or another and I have been riding for over 30 years. Point being. Harleys have a soul.

FXR touring model. The FXR was one of the best riding bikes they ever built. And as with any machine of the modern area. Just maintain it, don't be doing poser burnouts and wheelies with it, replace parts as needed..It will run long past a persons [censored] in the wind of a life.
