I have a number of hard copies that were originally type as a Word file. I can use my printer to copy the file to a USB travel drive. I can then load the file into my computer but, how to save it as a Word file so I can edit it? Thank you. Ed Hayes

You need to scan it with a machine capable of OCR (Optical Character Recognition).

If your printer is capable of scanning, then it ought to have OCR available, perhaps as part of a software "suite" that you may need to install separately.

What is the make and model of your printer?

Your CANON (just one "N") will scan as several types of files. It does have OCR. You use OCR by clicking the Custom Scan with One Click icon in the desktop's software.

It's all in the User Manual, which would have installed when you installed the drivers for your Canon.

The canon copied file is a PDF file in Adobe. To transfer it to my computer as a Word file, Adobe has a conversion file and a charge. I guess I will end up retyping at this point. Ed

If it did OCR on it, just do Control-A to highlight all the text, then copy and paste into Word. Probably won't get all the formatting but will get you all the text.

That's just the default. You need to scan as JPEG and have the program open the file with Omnipage SE, which is the OCR program.

Using your computer and NOT the front panel on the printer...
-- Open up your User Manual: Start > All Programs > Canon MX300 series On-screen Manual.
-- Click the Show icon in the upper-left corner. (But if that icon says Hide, then you don't need to click it)
-- In the Type in the keyword to find field, type these three letters: OCR
-- Click the List Topics button.
-- Double-click on the first listing below, which should be Common Features.
-- The second link in the resulting dialog box is entitled: OCR (Scanning Documents as Text Data)
-- Follow the instructions given there.
