I go to scrap yards and yank all the fuses relays I can find that are OEM and keep 'em in my pocket. Then I pay for the big parts that I'm there for... I also keep a collection of plastic clips and other small oddities. I must have over 1,000 different kinds of fuses/relays in my small parts bin.

Technically yes, but the auto-wreckers up here are ok with it as long as it's not major things...

I pulled a dipstick from a Windstar for my dads van and also had an ABS module. I showed the guy at the counter and he charged me for the ABS module and told me not to worry about the dipstick.

They are really reasonable about things like that... What are they going to charge me for a handful of fuses I can buy at my local dollar store?

I understand completely Stevie, I have a yard here in No. Ind. where I also do the same, 1st few times I did mention the extra things and was always told to stick them in my pocket and pay for whatever it was I really came for. Now I don't bother and just take, unless its something I know is worth money.

Anyway, have a good one, enjoy whats left of the weekend

I pay for everything little but when I was told not to worry about the dip-stick I figured for sure fuses would be on that list as well.

I always go for the $100 items or more when I'm there and pay for everything so their money is made IMO.

Besides up here they pay peanuts for cars. Like $50-$100 and sell the parts for 100 times that value in some cases...

I can count on one hand the number of fuses I've used over the DECADES of owning/operating vehicles (longer than you have been around which is really making me feel old

)

How MANY do you go through?

I go through very few in my own vehicles and probably could compare it to the amount you have gone through in the same proportion. However, I service lots of vehicles where people are idiotic and blow lots all the time and replace it for them when they bring me their vehicle with something that "stopped working suddenly" usually with no back-story.

i see a lot of blown fuses for the acc/cig lighter port, these days everybody is plugging laptops and power inverters into the there car and just overloading the fuse, besides that i'm with you bill, as a tech dealing with cars all day long i really don't see many blown fuses. but it never hurts having extras.

I also keep them for my mom because she turns on the wipers when they are clearly frozen into the ice on the windshield in the winter time and leaves them on until the heat defrosts the windshield. This usually overloads the fuse and it pops... She does it without fail at least once per winter. She even knows where the fuse is now...

My wife had a habit of doing that in the Jetta... The posts coming out of the cowl are metal but the arms are pot metal.

I never had a fuse blow but have had to replace a few wiper arms...

Thankfully she learned to STOP doing that.. Now if I could get her off the start the engine slam it into drive or 1st gear and stomp on it!

At least let it warm up.. For even a minute (which would be about 20 times longer than she ever does)

I will die young.. Below 60...

Bill,

Since you are using synthetic oil in her engine...... you shouldn't worry about your wife driving off after the engine has only been running for two seconds.

I checked all the fuses in my Crown Vic, no Harbor Freight fuses in there--all of them have the white numbers on top. The Harbor Freight fuses do not have white numbers on them, the numbers are just embossed into the plastic and are hard to read.
