Thank you for calling it Independence Day! I feel that it is very disrespectful to what the day stands for to refer to it as July 4th.
 
I'm not proud to be an American, but I am eternally grateful.

I am proud of the decency that this country stands for, although I am sometimes disappointed in the results.

I'm sure that there are many decent people in all corners of this planet, but I truly believe in the decency of the individual on which this country was founded July 4, 1776.

We, Americans, have a burden to live up to that. It's not impossible.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day! We are one lucky people.

How many other nations have been around for 235 years without some kind of violent change or revolution? What a testament to our Constitution and form of government!

Here's to another 235 years!

Happy Fourth of July everyone!
 
I would enjoy the holiday a lot more if my neighbors would obey the law. I whole heartily believe in what this holiday represents....however in my neck of the woods, people being what they are, the holiday is celebrated beginning three days prior with constant huge explosions (non-legal fireworks) making any enjoyment in my yard next to impossible. My dogs (even when kept inside) completely freak out. They are given sedatives yet continue to be extremely stressed. I DO NOT look forward to tonight as it turns into a complete free-for-all for hours at a time. In the morning my yard will be littered with debris. And as an added insult, the noise typically continues for a couple of days afterward. Sorry, but it just sucks bigtime.
It's a shame my fellow countrymen (at least where I live) choose to celebrate by disobeying the law and being downright rude.
But....Happy Independence Day anyway.

Sounds like you are not happy there!

No I am not. I've been doing just about all that I can to move. Due to the economic downturn however, it's a long way off. I hope to be able to purchase a getaway home soon though. At least then I will be able to escape time to time from this place when the need arises.
 
Where I live, it's a complete and utter WAR zone. My street, my yard, my cedar shake roof are all covered with Chinese debris. My Volvo took a direct hit to the windshield. I walked the dogs to the enemy territory. Wow. I thought my street was bad. It's at least a foot deep. Paper and burned junk everywhere. My dogs can handle gun shots - but not megaton range devices 100 ft from roof level. This is not sane. The only solace I can take is apparently one of his mortars blew in the tube. Hope his kids weren't near.

If one thing would make me move, this might be it. And I'm the dude who used to blow up all kinds of stuff. My dogs were hiding under my desk. This AM they seem to be better.

We went to the Carnation FW show. Really nice and controlled, excellent displayed. When we got home, apparently the battle was nearly over.
 
I remember we dropped a mortar in a chiminea and just about blew the back window out of a house once. Completely shattered the chiminea and blew shrapnel everywhere. Those things have some firepower.

Pablo...then you TOTALLY get it! I just spent about an hour picking up my yard from OTHERS litter....and I'm still not finished. Yesterday was simply horrid....but once the sun set? HOLY COW! I timed the explosions (and I mean HUGE explosions) and not once did any more than 30 seconds pass before ANOTHER HUGE BOOM would occur. And that doesn't count the smaller explosions in between those 30 seconds. And this was CONTINUOUS until freakin 1:00 AM!!! That's just rude, discourteous, and uncalled for. The idiot neighbor on one side of me actually angled 85% of his giant rockets right over my yard! Many nearly hit my chicken pen. It just makes me so angry that no consideration is given to your neighbor in this [censored] community I live in. My poor dogs were panting most of the night out of fear. I had to hold my Airedale until 1:00am or he would knock over furniture trying to hide behind them. He even dug a small hole in a corner of my carpet trying to dig himself away from the noise.
I've gathered all the garbage in a large container and am tempted to DUMP it in the yard next door. But I won't.....as he's an angry type jerk and will most likely retaliate in some way. My street out front is a disaster as well. And will any of my FINE neighbors clean it up? Oh heck no. Funny thing though....most are on welfare or have low paying jobs, but it sure didn't stop them from spending HUNDREDS on silly fireworks purchased from my other FINE citizens on the reservation.
Yeah.....gotta love the 4th. NOT.

Well at least I'm not the only one.. used to love the 4th as it's my b-day. We'll never spend another 4th up here in the city. Not only is it illegal fireworks but they block off streets if they feel like it! Made it a complete PITA to get home. One illegal block the woman even used to her kids to keep people from coming through. I was tempted to hit her but nah.. at least I got close enough to scare her a bit. Should of stopped and called the cops worried about my kids with all the fireworks. Didn't have anything in the yard since I strike fear in the kids on the block. We're still hearing fireworks!
