Long bonds are getting absolutely crushed.

When compared to German bonds, US Bonds have been getting crushed since 3rd quarter 2022.

3rd Quarter 2022 was the canary in the coal mine for U.S. debt.

That's the thing. Some are privileged enough to say "pain now will be worth it." But many may never recover and this will further divide the rich and lower income. But those people saying it may not care about those with lower income.

Moving away from politics, my just-turned 19 part-time college student employee complained to me today that he didn't get to do anything compared to my baby boomer teens where I started working at 13 (neighborhood lawn mowing). That's somewhat a wake up call for me. 3 of his teen years were during Covid. Is he crying out for help? I've been wrestling to break him of his cell phone addiction (every 15 minutes) even when we are out logging! (drives me nuts, and that's a short drive)

Instead of fighting his "addiction", I now feel somewhat motivated to give him the opportunity that he is seeking. Maybe I'll make him my protege! But, maybe sans my OCD stuff, lol.

I think we underestimate the effect of the Covid shutdown on our young adults.

YES! There are many routes to success, but most involve "grind", one way or another.

This is why I brought my kids smart watches instead of smart phones. I can take away their tablets and when they are out of the house they have no screen time, because, no screen.

It is a world wide problem and before smart phone there was TV, and before TV there was radio, etc.

I am sure we all disagree how to get there but I think we all want a prosperous America with every one being able to have a good paying job and a future they can look forward to.

Reality has proven that if everyone has it good it will be inflation. Fundamentally for a society to function there will be someone not having something to create a demand and supply, or there will be a shortage on one side and an oversupply on another.

Most policy making in the US agree that we need about 3-5% unemployment or it will be recession or massive inflation. This is by design unfortunately.

You’ve just made my point, Canadian border is pretty much open both ways. Whose responsibility do you think it is to stop the illegal traffic into Canada? If you secure it one way, you’ll secure it the other way as well.

And after seeing the Mexico border being secured in a matter of weeks, I don’t understand how a rational person would think the ask of the Canadian government was not based in reality.

Illegal immigrants is not a US / Canada only problem. I was told by a friend in Mexico and a friend in Thailand they too have illegal immigrants from other Latin American countries and Cambodia.

Having illegal immigrants is a fact of life if you are living in a developed or near developed country. You probably have to move to a slum country to completely not have that, but then you will be worse off than tolerating the slum in a developed country.
