The rear tires on the Focus are worn out at 24K. I put them on in Feb 09 and had the aliegnment done at that time. I have kept the air pressure correct and rotated them at 6 month entervals. Two weeks ago I was going to rotate them and the tread is down to the wear indicators on both rear tires. Fronts are fine. No unusual cupping or any other odd wear, just tread loss evenly across the tire. Dealer will prorate them, but no Hankooks in the US my size, so they put on a set of used tires on the rear till mine come in in July. I also checked with my local Ford dealer and they tell me they don't see this kind of wear with the Focus.

Not happy about this.

At 24,000 miles in 16 months it looks like you average 1,500 miles per month. At 6 month rotations that's 9,000 miles of use. maybe you need to do more frequent tire rotations. Maybe these tires are made with a softer rubber compound for better ride quality and grip

. My 1975 Rabbit came with German Uniroyal tires. They gripped well and were good in the rain but they wore out by 26,000 miles.

Whimsey

I had a set of Hankook mileage plus on my Intrepid. Mileage warranty was 80,000 miles. Finished at 36,000 miles. A lot of the Asian tires advertise a high warranty but fall well short of it.

Out of curiosity, did you put on 4 Hankooks, or do you have some other tire on the other axle? Typically the front tires on front wheel drive cars wear MUCH faster. If you have the Hankooks all around, it would definitely seem something is out of line with your rear tires if they are wearing more quickly than the fronts.

I have a set of Hankook Optimo 727's on my 2008 Impala. At 25,000 miles they have almost no visible wear (although I'm sure they've worn some)...plus they're phenomenally quiet and VERY good in the rain and snow. I've never been more satisfied with a tire and will soon buy a set for my Accord. My "top of the line" Goodyear Tripletreads were pretty much shot at 43,000 miles and were so noisy I couldn't wait to get rid of them (although great handling and super in the snow up to about 35,000 miles). Hankook has some "so-so" tires out there but their new tires seem to be much improved if these are any indication.

Depends on which tires he put on. Generally, OEM Hankook tires are garbage. I wonder if the OP bought the same Hankooks used as OE in other cars.

Mine are supposed to be 80K as well. Ain't gonna be close.

Couldn't say.

Those things come with 12/32 of tread brand new! I'm not surprised, and it's why they're 100,000 mile rated without sacrificing handling and traction.

They will be the next tire I put on my car - top rated on Tirerack.

Kooks(good name for them) are all around.

In July, when I am supposed to get the two new ones, the aliegnment will be rechecked.

Drew,
Wifes gone with the car. Will check when she gets back, but I think it's the Rapid Eracer line.

There's a lot about the OP that doesn't make sense. So to try to sort this out, here are some questions:

Tig,

In Feb 2009, did you purchase 4 tires or just 2?

Did they perform an alignment at the time? Did the vehicle every pull during that time?

How is the vehicle driven? Lots of short trips or lots of long trips? "Spirited" or cautious?

Do you chaeck the inflation pressures your self? What pressure is being used?

I have never gotten more than 30k out of ANY tire.

The last set on the saturn was a set of Firestone LH60's, they went about 25k right down to the wear bars.

The misses has a set of Hankook H rated tires on her sunfire, they are getting low right at 20k.

I rotate every other oil change, right about 8-9k miles.

Front wheel drive cars just seem to eat the tires, also slipping around during winter/spring doesn't help much either.

I bought all 4 and had the aliegnment checked at the time of purchase. No, the car does not pull and tracks very true. No spirited driving from me or my wife, just normal town and highway use. I'm a stickler for maintainance, as I keep the PSI at about 32-34 all the time.
