Halloween candy

That's how it is where I live. I'm in a very rural state, so parents who have kids out in the sticks, will bring their kids into the city for trick or treating.

Our houses are only 8' apart, so I really don't blame them.

Sadly, same here. We used to go out to eat every Halloween--no one is in the restaurant and we always would get great service! (Best night to have a night out IMO) When returning home, we'd see vans, trucks and hay trailers full of kids where the adult had tags from one and *two* counties away.

Last year, we stayed in, I asked every kid where they're from. Many kids said "down the street" or "just one block over on such-and-such road". OK. It's the ones that answered "ummm (pause) er...." You KNOW they were trucked in.

I told my wife she could give candy away to them. I'm not wasting my time on kids 30 miles away. It's a joke.

Maybe dinner out isn't such a bad idea after all.

I got a couple of bags of cheap $1.99 "Racer" brand candy bars from Aldi for the teenagers that are too [darn] old to be trick or treating.

Flipped over the bag. Made in Germany.

I ate one. They are not bad at all. In fact, they are too good for some 15 year old teen trick or treating.

He's getting a single pack of Smarties instead.

I always buy a bag of fullsize candy bars for my son's classmates that come to our door. Little kids get good candy too. Even one's that are bussed in. My cut-off is about 13 years old.

My neighborhood is at the entrance of another "exclusive" rather wealthy neighborhood. We get some bleedover from the people who drive their kids in to get candy from "the rich people" Maybe I do a good enough job on upkeep that they don't notice that my house is 1/5th the value of the other neighborhood. I'm going to stop now before I break my arm patting myself on the back

I don't know what I'm going to do with the Aldi German miniature "Racer" bars. Maybe have another or two for myself.

Wow, I'm truly amazed at the problems most of you have.

I live in a rough neighborhood, located in one of the poorest cities in the country, and Halloween is usually a lot of fun. Yes, some kids come in from the country and some older teenagers sneak in (usually accompanying younger siblings) but other than that, it's a chance to talk to neighbors and see some real cute kids.

We just buy a couple of bags of candy just in case anyone comes by. We haven't had a trick-or-treater by here in over 5 years.

But...there is always that possibility that one might come by I guess.

That mostly how I see it. I haven't experienced any shananigans on Halloween. It's been just as likely something would be done any other day of the year. Although I have seen a few houses or yards get TPed on Halloween and I am not discounting anyone else that runs into problems. I don't put out any decorations or Jack-o-latterns. If I did things might be different.

I'm not a big fan of Aldi, but they have some of the best chocolate and cookies out there period. Most of their stuff is direct from germany. The rest of the grocery store, most of the stuff I can't choke down but once in a while they get into some imported stuff, especially during the holidays.

I don't think we've gotten as many as 20 TOT's in the 13 years we've been in our house. They mostly go to the big candy farms (row houses/new housing blocks). I'm just going to deplete the candy jar of small Tootsie Rolls and Jolly Ranchers, and I have a stash of good candy in reserve. No problems.

I run a 131 home HOA. We ended TOT and replaced it with Trick or Booze. The kids (very few) have to stay at home while the adults move from home to home with a bottle or two. It promotes meeting your neighbors and a sense of 'togetherness'. John--Las Vegas.

I live on a High Hill, Last house on the left, dark dead end street. I don't get an trick or treaters. Is my name Freddy, don't ask.

I live on a ruralish road. Use to get a lot of TOT but in the last 15 years if I get 5 that's a lot. There are a lot more Halloween neighborhood parties for the kids now a days around here.

I used to love trick-or-treating as a kid, and the activities that were available when I was a bit older. I figure I owe a lot of payback. Now, I buy packages of the big candy bars, and give them out to all who come by. If the older teenagers or even parents get them, I don't mind. I'd rather have overage trick-or-treating than have them roaming around throwing eggs.

I don't understand people who spend hundreds on decorations, then cheap out on candy for the kids. If you can't afford to give out candy, that's ok, but don't spend $400 on decorations and personal costumes, then only $15 on candy.

Small, or "fun size" candy bars here. They're sold everywhere in stores this time of year. If I was REAL fiendish, I'd buy the stuff on sale on November 1 and save it for next year.

For the past few years, our town has had a strict T or T curfew, like either 3:30 to 7 or 4 to 7. It works well and lets us turn out the lights and not worry about the older kids who used to come around at 9PM.

Oh, and for those older kids - a football jersey is not a costume. Show a little effort next time.

I just hope I have enough candy. Trick-or-treat is tomorrow night. You can never predict how many kids will come by and how much to ration out. Some years it has been not many and some years it has been a flood. and they don't even arrive consistentally enough to tell until it's over. I don't want to run low on candy but I don't really want to be left with several bags.

You can always bring the left over stuff to work and put it in a break area or something.

Yeah if I end up with more than a couple bags that's a good idea. I don't expect to but if not I wouldn't want to eat all that candy.

Trick-or-treat is almost over here. I didn't have very many kids arrive. I have loads of candy left and have started giving it out by the handful. If I hadn't opened all the bags of candy maybe I could've taken some of it back lol.

Maybe there weren't as many kids because not everyone in my nieghborhood is giving out candy so they went to a different neighborhood although I thought I saw more kids walking on the other side of the street than came by. I guess trick-or-treat is an enigma that can never be predicted
