It is so sad to watch the footage out of Haiti. Those people had next to nothing and now that has been taken away. Death and destruction everywhere.

I just gave to the relief effort.

We are so blessed here and so rich compared to most of the world. Can you spare even $ 5-10.00 that you would never even miss to help others in dire need?

Please do!

You can also text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross relief efforts for Haiti. The amount will be added to your cell phone credit card bill.

This is a quick and easy way to help.

I think the US military will be occupying Haiti for a LONG time.

I did.

Our Church, which has 13,000 weekly attenders, gave this week's ENTIRE offering amount to charities in Haiti!

doctors without borders and international medical corps are places to donate with a goodly % of $$$ going to work and not into the ceo's pocket. I think there are lot's of $$$ flowing now to good orgs, but the logistics required for proper and effective mobilisation are enough to make you crazy. I can see Tommy lee Jones in the command centre now ...

They will probably send $.50 to Haiti and keep the rest as an administration fee.

It is great to donate, but be skeptical about who you give money to. The scammers come out of the woodwork to cash in this kind of disaster. If you paid your taxes you already have donated some since the US sent ~$100 million in aid.

Unbelievable. They're throwing my money down the toilet.

Donate to help? Yes. But bring them to the USA? You're out of your mind.

That wasn't a serious post.

Yeah, we have to look back no further than 9/11 to see how the Red Cross handled donations. The victims families were the intended beneficiaries and the "institution" wanted to provide "services" instead.

It's a trap most organizations cannot escape. Be it your church or some non-profit. They insist on growing to the limits of the revenue available. When times are good, they grow ..then end up eternally having their hand out to keep the machinery working. Tragedy ends up being the grease that lubes the machinery.

I often thought that donation 'trusts" would be a better option for any organization. Where the organization would only operate on 50% of the interest yield from the trust ..and that all donations/grants/etc. would be required to be placed in the trust. Then they could grow no bigger than what they had perpetual funding for ...for eternity. It stops the insatiable and irresistible "good intentioned" corruption from ever having the fuel to take hold ..at least for the major enablers.
