Hail Storm in Southwest Missouri

A few towns nearby were hit by a couple wicked storms like we haven’t seen in my lifetime as far as I can remember.

Had some homes north of here with the exterior walls, windows and doors completely destroyed. There were several houses where you could see completely through exterior walls into the house. You can imagine how the vehicles fared.

Today Springfield, MO was hit with baseball and softball size hail. Tens of thousands of vehicles have most or all of the glass knocked out. Lowe’s and other large retailers lost skylights. The airport reported windshields damaged in aircraft(I’m sure the aircraft sustained other damage as well) and nearly every rental car at the airport destroyed.

It’s the most damaging storm I think I've ever seen outside of a tornado. I won’t try to post bunch of photos and links here but some searching on social media or Google will give what info is available.

I’m curious to see if our auto or home insurance rates go up. I can’t imagine the number of zeros this is going to cost the insurance industry in this area.
We live that danger from April to August. One of the reasons insurance is so high in Colorado is hail.
The area between Denver and Colorado Springs is considered the "hail capital of the US.
In 2016, 50,000 cars were totaled. I would drive the streets, and houses were missing windows, destroyed siding etc.
I had to replace the roof that year bcs. that hail storm in July.

We went through a similar hail event in September 2023. I had a 2020 Ram 1500 with 8,500 miles which was totaled. Our skylight was taken out, and even had some hailstones penetrate the shingles and roof decking, ending up in the insulation layer. Lots of other damage.

Our 2022 Audi was parked in the garage, so was spared. Our two separate garage doors aren't big enough to allow a full-sized pickup to go through into the garage. After this event, we decided to not replace the truck and got a 4.5' x 10' aluminum trailer for the times when I needed to haul things that wouldn't go in the back of the Q5, e.g. 10' boards, concrete, blocks, rental equipment like a plate compactor, etc. Makes life so much easier and I no longer have to worry about a vehicle parked outside. Insurance paid out more than the I paid for the truck when bought new!

Wow, I guess this is one of those states where you might second think owning solar panels too!.
Amazing video put together on YouTube .

Solar panels on my roof are apparently resistant to baseball size hail up to 120mph.
We have hail every month from April to August and so far so good.

My neighbor two doors down had a complete Tesla solar panel/power wall system installed the year prior to our hailstorm. The hail that totaled my truck took out all of his panels.
