This past Wednesday, 12/9, I got the surgery I've been waiting for. Yesterday, I was a little groggy, today I feel fine. The aneurysm was small, 5mm, but had a wide neck, so they went with a stent to redirect blood flow past it. I'm kind of glad, since I wasn't very enthusiastic about the coiling idea.

This was an endovascular procedure, i.e., through the femoral artery, so recovery is quick. I'm not supposed to lift over 10 lbs. or so for a week, and then I should be able to do normal stuff. This isn't for the sake of the aneurysm, but rather the closure on the artery. So at least if my wife asks me to hand her her purse, I can tell her to get it herself.

I'll have to have a couple, or maybe a few, angiograms to see how things are going over the next year or two, and I'll have to take aspirin for the rest of my life, but I'm cool with that.

I don't know who you are, but I can relate to what's happening, and it brought tears to my eyes.

My Mom passed this past Summer because of multiple aneurysm's. She had five total. She was in her 70's, so her body did not recover. I can't remember if it was a stent or a coil they used on the one that was bleeding, but I told the doctor at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte, NC to do whatever was in his best judgement.

I hope you get well soon!

I had one of those "thunderclap" headaches. They come on suddenly and are usually the worst headache you've ever experienced. They commonly happen when an aneurysm bleeds, which fortunately was not the case for me. But they did find the aneurysm in the scans that they did.
