guys over 50 doing maintenance

Based on his signature i'm going with 1993. ;)

I like the Turbo wheels in the one picture.
Trivia, in the first The Mighty Ducks, Gordon gets picked up in a 264 wagon. Can tell by the electric sideviews. BMW 6 and 7 series also used them back then

Never been a real man, never worked on my cars.

My advice would be to do what makes you happy without feeling bad you have lost interest in it at your age.

Be proud that you at least worked on your own car for many years.
Exactly. In my day every guy played guitar. We’d carry them everywhere and meet women easily. Today, no need, use an app. But that guy using the app is just as happy as we were playing guitar. To each his own.

I never played ice hockey growing up even though it was New England and my town had two rinks. I did skate and play pond hockey. The sport was way too expensive for my parents to even consider. My kid plays and I enjoy being a hockey parent.

Working on cars for me is a money saving thing. I’m not more manly for it and nobody should feel it’s a must as a man. Jmoymmv

The guys todays are just getting rejected more because it’s mainly based on looks with dating apps ( first, physical impression ) , not talent unlike the days with the guitar🙂

IMO, being able to work on cars has very little to do with being a "real" man.
I totally agree , I was just making fun of myself because someone on another thread basically said you’re not a real man if you don’t do that kind of stuff ( handyman, change own oil ).

To keep it on topic so I don’t help it getting locked, I think people should listen to their body and stop doing things they now find more difficult or just realize it’s o.k to lose interest in things you used to enjoy.

I have lots of respect for talented people who can work on their own cars but people have different talents , and interests, in life.

Not everyone wants to work on their cars or fly planes.

Be yourself. Do what you want to do and quit if you don’t enjoy it anymore.

I justed complete the rotor & pad change - the weather greatly cooperated.
Impressions easy job and one surprise was the passenger rear pad had the wear sensor and not the driver rear.
The OEM pads had 4mm left which is pretty impressive (given that its a heavy german tank, it would have gone another 20K easily).
The OEM rotors were midly scored and it made braking harder.

I am over that age, it does take me longer but it’s partially that I don’t have as good of place to work.

I’ve never been a huge fan of maintenance, but I be always been down to build a motor… need to freshen one up, change a cam and build a fiveoh for the Ranger but no time…

If and when that ever happens, Greggo will come and haunt me from the great beyond...

:rolleyes:Show off!!!!!!!!!.;) Pulling your leg. I just love it.
Just wish I was still in shape to use the ones I had. Gave most away to son and nephew.
When I retired they had some young mechanics thought I was Santa Clause. I took them around the job site (took about 3 hours) giving away all my master keys and tool boxes and lockers. I even had a private store room I had set up full of stuff in one of the shops. I used to sleep in there thru lunch times.
I gave them 3-4 stand up / SnapOn tool chests I had set up in 3 different maintenance shops across the plant site. Did that because even though I was assigned the power house, every time they had a turn around on another part of the place I would get sent to work out of their shops with that crew. So I kept tools all over the site in all the shops I would at times get sent to work out of. My manager allowed me to purchase anything I wanted. Talk about made some of the guys mad/jealous.

I'm 31 so can't comment here other than to say I have been lifting weights and cycling since 15; and so should everyone else.

I have a mobile mechanic who I use sometimes as I am time poor. He's pushing 80, looks good; and could work on a car for a full day.

Don't let your body go - and if you have let it go, you can bring it back. It just takes some willpower!
