That's a myth (not defending the guy in question either). On average, lottery winners are broke again in five years.

At first I thought the photo was of filmmaker Michael Moore.I hate to say it, but the guy looks like a class A loser.

But will she still be payingThe biggest question in my mind is, will this guy be broke and penniless in 5 years, or will it take 10?
First thing you do is hire an attorney, a really good one. There are some that actually specialize in lottery winnings, what a niche to be in!Anyone who wins big money would be smart to have an irrevocable trust.
The right thing to do would be for him to settle a few million on his ex.
He's got FU money, he can just disappear, let her pay to find him, then drag it out in court until she goes brokeExactly. For the incoming lawsuit, his attorney will likely say to give the wife a few MM just to make the problem go away. Opposing attorney will go for half or more. If there is any proof of any kind of abuse or really just anything, you betcha she will get more than "go away" money. Her attorney will fight like heck and they are probably lining at her door right now.
I hope she makes it and gets most of it!
But she's a woman, and he used the alimony to buy the ticket so now she gets 95% of the winnings, he pays all court costs, and gets no alimony. Family courts says soI mean she married him? So presumably there both losers?
The good news is she won't have to pay alimony anymore. She should be happy?
I don’t see how. Divorce is final?Exactly. For the incoming lawsuit, his attorney will likely say to give the wife a few MM just to make the problem go away. I think if you file suit, you can't just disappear unless you deport yourself and offshore the money, which will likely be more expensive than giving the ex a few MMHe's got FU money, he can just disappear, let her pay to find him, then drag it out in court until she goes broke![]()
I'm sure a crafty attorney can find a way. Just like suing anyone else for $$$, payment for harm? IDK, would be interesting to see what happens.I don’t see how. Divorce is final?
Anyone can sue any one for anything at any time.I'm sure a crafty attorney can find a way. Just like suing anyone else for $$$, payment for harm? IDK, would be interesting to see what happens.
I didn't read the article. If it's the UK, I have no clue what happens there.Anyone can sue any one for anything at any time.
That doesn't mean they will get anywhere. If the divorce was finalized then the money was gained after any relationship ended.
I can see her no longer having to pay alimony because that judgement was based on his need presumably, which no longer exists - ie the premise of the original judgement has changed.
He may chose to settle. Its the UK so who knows what laws exist, but after divorce here the financial go forward relationship after that point is no more connected than you and I are. There may still be joint claims of things that happened in the marriage, and those could be reversed. But I think money gained afterwards would be tough to get.
UK at one time was based on common law, thats where common law originated for the world. Who knows now.I didn't read the article. If it's the UK, I have no clue what happens there.
I'd doubt that he's smart enough to escape with the funds safely hidden and any third party he goes to for assistance will recognize this and rob him blind. He's got FU money, he can just disappear, let her pay to find him, then drag it out in court until she goes broke![]()
