If my wife said I could not have any guns (way too late!) I would just do it anyway and I would not hide them from her. Too many guys, at least in my area, let their wives run the show and call the shots. I could not live that way and I believe that most of the guys that do are unhappy. 50/50 is about right.

I would suggest taking the gun off your friend for his own good.
It doesn't sound like he's mature enough for the responsibility.
The agreement stipulates that he tells his wife that you are keeping it for him.
Then keep where he can't get it, locked up with your guns.
And if he doesn't tell his wife then you do.

I feel sorry for a guy that needs permission from his wife to buy a gun. Your interests, be it hunting, fishing, boating, cars etc. are pretty much ironed out before you get married so there are no surprises. I like guns, my wife doesn't, I knew that 26 years ago when I married her. She respects my interests, doesn't always agree with them but never interferes with them. It would be a sad day when I have to lie or hide something from her.
