Just curious which fuel system cleaner you guys prefer, as both seem to be pretty well regaurded on this site. I've normally always used the Chevron stuff, but the Gumout stuff is cheaper and treats a few more gallons for the price.

I like Regane better because it's more concentrated. Less solvent per dose. It's also cheaper.

It's was on sale last week at my Meijer for $4.75.

I mostly use it in my oil burning truck. It will foul a plug in 500 miles....and go forever as long as I have this stuff in my tank at a 1/2 dose....ie, half bottle per 20 gallons.

And I put a bottle every spring for every 5 gallons of gas for my 2-stroke outboards. This helps to de-carb them really well.

I use chevron mostly, thats because i got a [censored] load on sale.

Either product has good rep on this forum , so go with which ever is cheaper.

They are both PEA (polyether amine) based cleaners but I think the Regane and Techron probably use polymers of different molecular weights. I couldn't decide which one to use after an intake manifold gasket replacement, so here's what I did (and it worked GREAT)

First, used Gumout/Regane at recommended dosage.
Next tank, used Techron at recommended dosage.

I actually think the Techron worked 'better' but I have no empirical evidence to back it up - just my impression.

Techron for me, get a bunch of it whenever its BOGO at AAP or AZ. Redline if its a neglected system ( i.e. mom's or my sister's car ).

Chevron Techron and Chevron ProGuard are not the same thing. The Techron and the Gumout with Regane are both PEA based, I'd go on whatever is cheaper.

I use Redline cause I got 20 bottles on clearance from AAP.

Techron - Buy one, get one free from AAP is also a good deal.

I've used both with good success, I know the Regane is $4.94 at Walmart. BOGO deals are nice too. I use Redline now as I've found that to work the best(seat of pants, no data).

Thanks guys. I usually buy the Chevron stuff at Walmart, but noticed that the gumout was cheaper. I can get the Chevron by the case at Costco, but I haven't priced it out yet to see I'd its a good deal or not

Chevron is a deal at autoparts stores with rebates or buy-one-get-one. At Walmart or target, the Regane all-in-one treats 35gal and is usually the $/oz winner. Can easily take care of 2-3 tanks, or run it for a tank then add 2oz/tank (similar to Redline dosing) for a few.

Lots of ways to skin a cat.

I will guestimate that regane all-in-one or high-mileage could boost MPG every so slightly more vs techron (due to friction modifiers). We're talking 5% or less, though, if actually measureable.

Wasn't real concerned about mileage gains, was just looking for something to use as a maintenance dose to keep things clean in my car.
I do have another one to add to the mix though. Our parts department has been selling Lucas products for a few years now, but I noticed that we just started carrying their ethanol fuel treatment. Is much really known about that stuff? I can probably get a good deal on it if its any good. I know their regular fuel treatment is kind of hit or miss when it comes to opinions on here

As far as Lucas oil and transmission additives go they are junk but their fuel additive works if not overdosed.
