Gulf oil is still around!?

So I was getting gas the other day at a Gulf gas station and needed a quart of 20w50 for the riding lawn mower. Yes, its molasses but my old JD 210 tractor burns oil but still runs like a top. Anyways I walked in the store to get some oil and theres Gulf oil! Anyone have any idea what this stuff is?

"American Refining Group".....the ones that make Brad Penn oil, also own the rights to the 'Gulf' name. All this oil is is re-labelled Brad Penn oil.

My BIL's shop where he works get GULF oil by the cases. It's what he uses in his daily driver in the 15W40 grade. The shop uses GULF oil in all of the trucks.

No, I mean having OEM formulate their oil and, not being a force in the industry as they were in the 1960's.

Well I stopped by again today and took a look at their small selection of auto stuffs.. Mostly STP additives, and a couple rows of Gulf oil. They had Gulf Synthetic Blend 5w30 and 10w30, 10W-40, and Conventional Gulf 5w30, 10W-40, along with Yard Equipment 2-stroke oil and then Marine 2-stroke oil. They also had some Zerex Anti-freeze (so now I know where to get it when I flush my cooling system!

Just to clarify, that oil bottle is probably NOT that old.

New Gulf 20W-50 (made by Amref) is simply blended to SJ specs - it doesn't mean this bottle was produced during the SJ period.

Of course, it COULD be a very old bottle, it could. But I doubt it.

Maybe I'll pick up a bottle of the SB 5w30 and send it off to Blackstone for a VOA. I have a couple sample bottles sitting here so we'll see.

We've seen a VOA of the syn-blend...any chance at all of doing the 'regular' 5w30/10W-30?
