was doing some late Christmas shopping at Wal-Mart on Christmas Eve... found a HUGE stash of 0501... couldn't convince the wife to let me buy a couple of quarts =) I guess buying oil on vacation isn't her idea of 'reasonable'

It wasn't all that cheap either, $7.28 Cnd a quart.. with their 15% sales taxes we'd be talking over $7 USD a quart. Okay, not worth it at all....

Still though, it was nice to see some green GC. Can't find any here in Qns NY.

"...$7.28 Cnd a quart.."

That actually is $7.28Cdn per Litre.
(about $6.37US/L)

So that is $6.89Cdn per US Quart.
Which is about $6.03US per US Quart (before taxes).

nobadges: if you're looking for it, the stash I found was in the southkeys walmart.

darkjedi: didn't get in on the $4 autozone sale?

Gase2: good point about the litre.

My point however was that at >$6USD a quart, it's not worth it to me to get green GC when the gold stuff is available locally at $4. That's all...

Ok, I found some at Parts Source on Merivale Road.

Castrol Syntec 0w-30 ... I bought 1 quart and its definately green...and says "made in Germany"

Now I have a couple of questions, about this stuff...

1. I have 2 Neons. 2001 SOHC and 1998 DOHC. The preferred spec oil is 5w-30.
I have been running Mobil 1 5w-30...is GC 0w-30 suitable for my cars?

2. ....and is it better than Mobil 1? The GC is slightly cheaper than M1.

1) Yes, GC is just fine for a car that specs a Xw-30 oil. Afterall, GC is a 30-weight oil at operating temps same as any other 5W-30 or 10w-30.

2) I think it's better than some grades of M1 when used in certain vehicles. GC isn't the best for all vehicles though...you won't know until you try it.

Hey thats great...thanks for the info!

So if I add 1 quart...which I bought yesterday... of the GC 0w-30 to my M1 5w-30...it won't destroy my engine. Maybe thats a good way to try it.

Ok so does that mean it will not mix with M1 5w-30

nobadges,

It will mix just fine...despite the fact that it will make the Elves cry...

In fact, it will improve the overall quality of your lubrication. Enjoy your concoction!
