I think the Toyota/Lexus UZ V8 family qualifies. Others?

Yeah, Lexus V8 engines are almost lasted forever.

Any of the Detroit Diesel 71 series....yeah, they did tend to leak oit but they never rusted either!

Stories also abound about the 110 series was discontinued because it lasted forver but in reality it was discontinued because of the 92 series.

Right now Im teaching drivers education in a Grand Prix my company gave me that just flipped 300,000 miles on the GM 3800 engine. Runs GREAT still!!

I cast a vote for GM's 3800.

The 1MZ-FE will last forever (i.e. if maintained), I know of plenty above 350k miles which are still smooth and don't consume a measurable amount of oil.

1980's 'Asian' I-4's:

Toyota 1.5/1.6/2.0 (Tercel and Corolla);
Honda 1.8/2.0/2.2 (Accord);
Nissan 1.6/2.0 (Sentra).

Just try to kill any of these....

Volvo's T5 engines.

I love, love, love old IH's. When I was a kid, my mom had a old Scout II with the 345 and torqflite auto. It was orange with the brown, plaid interior. I would love to own one like it someday. I had a 72 3/4ton pickup my senior year in highschool. It was an old farm truck with a chevy bed on the back, no power anything, 304, 4spd with the low first gear and drum brakes all the way around. wish it would have been 4wd, I probably would have kept it and tryed to fix it up. I loved it though and will own one again someday.

Fords:300 inline 6,302/351,4.6/5.4,the sohc 429.
Chev:327,350,396,427,454,inline 6er(I forget displacement),then we get into the metric marvels like the legendary 3.8(once the intake manifold gasket was corrected)4.3,2.8,even the 2.2 was durable as heck. My girl had a cavalier with over 350k when it was totalled. Still started first turn.
Chrysler:slant 6,318,2.2 liter,5.7 hemi. Most other Chrysler engines were hit and miss. I've seen a 340 in a duster that the rings were shot at 40000 miles. I have no experience with their big blocks.
The 2.2 Mitsubishi engine that was in some chryslers were pretty tough too.
