My neighbor and I bought a couple year old Gravley ZTR. It worked fine for the first month. But now while mowing the engine just stops. It will restart and continue mowing. I printed all the manuals. Its got a couple of safety switches. I don't see a wiring diagram in the service manual.

Ideas?

You didn't mention how old it was.

My Gravely (probably 25 years old or more) had the same issue. There are three little cube-style relays. I replaced them all (they are identical part numbers) and haven't had an issue since. This is a common thing with older units; the relays won't stay latched when you hit bumps or they get too hot.

Its a couple of years old (2022 I think) with 300+ hours.

Something is not making contact. For me it was a loose wire that made it cut off when going over bumps but a bad relay can simulate a key off. I had a relay fail but that only prevented the clutch from engaging.

About the only safety switch that will kill the engine is for the seat and the actual ignition switch. . The others will prevent the starter from cranking. Might be worth starting with reseating the connections for those.

If all else checks out, maybe something is clogging the fuel line that goes down into the tank? Is the key sticking in the start position and not returning to "run" by any chance?

Hard stop or stutters and slowly (quickly) dies ? If it's a hard stop, it's likely a safety switch or relay like others have said.

I just saw a Chicanic YouTube video showing where some newer mowers have a kill switch on the grass discharge chute. I never would have guessed. Maybe the coil is going bad?

The basics shouldn't require a wiring diagram. Find the seat safety switch and right/left steering arm switches to start and make sure they're secured. Follow the wiring back to the primary relay and check there too. Is it random when it shuts off or is it after operating for a while ? If it's after a while, I'd look at relays getting hot vs the various switches themselves.

I love my Gravely now but not at first. That era had mega Covid. Mine even went back. Twice. Once for a bizarre sheet metal interference issue with the brake lever switch, the other with one of the handle switches.
