When cutting tall grass with my weed whacker, sometimes grass gets wrapped around on top of the head. I tend to take a breather and clean it off every now and again and just use it so that this doesn't happen often. My wife used it for a while today and when she came in there was grass and weeds caked around on top of the head pretty thick. When I pulled it off, I noticed the top of the plastic trimmer head had what looked like a little scorching on it.
I don't really like letting the grass accumulate there because it seems like it would inhibit cooling airflow to the drive gear housing at the end of the shaft. However, I don't really want to "correct" my wife on this unless it's actually an issue. Am I just being too much of a BITOGer or is this a legitimate thing?
