Walk behind string trimmer for everything?

Good morning - I have a three quarter acre yard in a rural area. My yard is a mixture of lawn, trees, brush, and swampy ground. I currently have a riding lawn mower, push mower, and a 2 cycle string trimmer. Rather than maintain all this machinery, I was thinking about using a DR trimmer for everything. I am not looking for the golf course look, just keep the grass and weeds down and make the place look somewhat neat. There is no tall grass law in this county.

How much of that 3/4 acre is mowable? Before making the investment, see if you can rent one and find out if it'll work for you. I think even 10K sq.ft. of grass all done with a walk behind string trimmer would be a PITA, unless you enjoy mowing masochism. Me personally, I'd keep the rider and trimmer and ditch the pusher if you're looking to pare down. Especially if the rider has a cupholder .

I think that you currently have everything that you need for your property.
Adding a Darwin’s Grip to your weed eater will make it’s operation more comfortable.

I used to own ~4 acres of some pretty extreme ground. We kept a camp ground on the back acre, a path, and of course our home was on the front. I used one of these towed behind my 4-wheeler to maintain most of the property, and it worked GREAT!
It does NOT work well on "manicured lawns" as the grass is too fine, and it just lays over and looks crap.
This isn't the exact one I had, but close...mine was a bit more industrial. I actually enjoyed mowing with it, as I got to ride my ATV, chew up some gnarly brush, take down small trees (basically if I could get my ATV to push it over, it would chew it up).
I had this for most of the property, a small Cub Cadet for the "pretty areas" and a string trimmer I upgraded to a swing blade system that my bride loved to use....seriously fill it up with fuel, and I would not see her until the tank ran out.

Those push weed trimmers are not enjoyable to use. They are meant more for mowing around fence lines. I think something like a used rough cut or walk behind brush mower might be what you need.

Never heard of that until this thread. Last time edging I was noticing how much I bend. Might be a very near purchase to try it.

I have one and it certainly helps. I'm 5'10 but have heard it is a must-have for people over 6ft.

I can't see the big string trimmer being faster than a ride on mower? I try to run my trimmer with the plastic folding blades, as it doesn't take much to go through alot of line. I like the metal blades of a lawn mower though..
I use my riding mower for anything it will push over, tall weeds and grass, little trees, shrubs... I found some decent HD blades that don't bend, and spindle housings are only $30, so git'r done! I've never bent the actual spindle, but I've got spares on the shelf.
I only have one spot that gets a bit wet and squishy but as long as a I don't break through the sod layer, the mower goes through Ok. They do make wider tires or running chains all the time might work?
I still use mine on the lawn, but I wonder if cutting off part of the rear of the deck would allow the far left blade discharge back and not transfer cut grass to the right blade? It might make it cut the heavy stuff easier.

Exactly. I bought a 190cc Husqvarna walk behind in 2019. The only time I use it is when I’ve been away and come back to waist high grass and weeds.
Now that I’ve bought a second ride on, it might not see any use at all.
Maybe I’ll give it to my son who has an acre yard in northern BC.

I love mine. I’ll probably buy one for my edger.
