This past weekend I stopped by Tractor Supply for some grass seed. A 20# bag of sun and shade mix was $80. Those large bags of KY31 pasture grass were over $100. Didn't buy any. Had no idea it had gotten that high.

Lawn fertilizer has gone up absolutely crazy this year too.
We don’t need grass seed as I use centipede grass and the house before this zoysia grass and when we used to live in New York zoysia grass up there too
As long as sunshine and no shade, zoysia will take over anything except centipede grass, and centipede grass the same way as zoysia.
Just buy some plugs online have them ship to your house and plant them about 4 feet apart throughout the lawn and less than five years as long as their is sunshine you will have a thick carpet of grass, but it will turn brown during the winter and I know some people hate that

I hear ya , I about fell over in the early summer when I went to get grass seed at Lowes, guess what ? . it will stay on the shelf. the bare spots in the yard can fill in with weeds or what ever

I just bought 40#s Schultz Sun and Shade at Menards for $115 or so. I use to get the Tractor Supply and Farm and Fleet grass that is coated but not had much luck the second year and you are only getting half the grass seed with the coating.

My grandfather used to always say sod was the way to go. I always insisted on using grass seed. Guess what? With the high price of seed with most of it not actually growing, grandpa was right. Seed is such a waste of time. There are some sod farms local to me that when you factor in the price of seed, and the time and effort spent trying to get it to grow, the sod makes sense. Keep it well watered, and have good topsoil prepared for when you put it down, and you have instant lawn.

Keep it in a well sealed metal container. I've had rodentia chew through even thick walled plastic containers.

Maybe in your safe with your guns and fun size Snickers.

For the last 5-6 years I've been clearing off wild weedy growth and planting grass. Takes a year or more to get the weeds killed off good. But I spread seed as long as it's going to be normal rain. But the last two summers have been droughty. Last winter though was quite mild and I was planting seed in January. All the coated seed type did sprout good but drought seemed to wipe them out, not retuning out of dormancy. I don't like buying 50 lb bags and only getting 25 lbs of grass seed either.

But it takes about three years to get a decent lawn from seed. I only water the first year when needed.

Last spring my mower broke in mid April. Didn't get a new one until almost mid June. It was dry anyway but all the grass went to seed at different times. I did see a lot of that sprout in late summer and fall but some of the grass types are not really wanted.

Does anyone buy grass seed out of barrels in hardware stores (Ace, grain stores, etc) ? It seems like it's less expensive.
